    Confusion

    why try,
    we've lost the war,
    don't cry,
    humanity is a whore,
    a nomad in the desert,
    searching for nothing,
    he may never find,
    truth,

pain is the only thing thats real,
not sure what it is you feel,
    confusion, confusion,
    i'm losing my mind
    confusion, confusion,
    i'm wasting my time

drowning in a pool of compromise,
it's gone until you open your eyes
gazing at life through a kaleidoscope,
    try your hardest to cope,
but no one wants to fall

pain is the only thing thats real,
not sure what it is you feel,
    confusion, confusion,
    i'm losing my mind
    confusion, confusion,
    i'm wasting my time

    mortality is an illusion,
    we are eternal,
    be enlightened within the fusion,
    reality is a joke,
    played on us by ourselves,

I know it's a little dark, but what do you think. My band is planning on using them but I don't know if they really fit with the whole Jam Band scene.

if you are concerned with labels, being part of jam nation will fry your circuits.

also, jam lyrics, when there are some, range from silly to sublime.

nothin wrong with being dark, but yeah, if youre in the jamband scene you may wanna consider that a large percentage of your fanbase is probably munching psychedelics, and super-sensitive to negativity...these folks will be looking to your band's groove to guide them through the evening. if you guide them to a dark, desparate, negative place, most likely they wont be jumping at the chance to repeat the experience next time yall come to town. one of the greatest strengths of the "scene" (imho, of course), is the ability to get a group of folks and musicians together and take a couple of hours to forget about the negativity of the world, remember how to love each other, and to get down like clowns....

of course theres a place for dark music, and many folks that really dig it...im just making generalizations based on my experience with the 'jamband scene'.....

whatever you play though, just play it like you mean it, and youll find the folks that dig it

then again, the dark has a strong attraction: look at the people who really get off on JB (WPanic) and his dark swamp deamon trip. My sweetie loves that part of them.
if it is one song and not the whole catalogue, could be a great textural addition, IF the music is there.

i love me some JB, but i cant offhand think of any wsp songs with that kind of misery in them...i think phish comes closer (maze, my friend)....
but anyway, yeah there bits of darkness in a lot of this music...the dead took their jams into some very dark places at times....i guess the thing is if youre gonna lead your audience to one of those dark places, you should also know how to bring them back

i never thought about that a whole lot, drumminmama, but you're absolutely right!! one of the darkest sounding songs of theirs in my opinion (contentment blues) is about how much jb loves chicken!!

thats weird...this thread had me thinkin about that as well....how panic sounds so dark, yet the lyrics are somewhat positive....never ceases to amze me how much emotion can be conveyed without words
