My family and I have never lived in a "regular" house in our 30 years together. We have lived in tents,(for over 15 years-year round), plywood shacks, and now live in a converted schoolbus. How many other people live in "alternative housing" ? Tell us about your different kind of house.! I love to hear about how inventive people can be when it comes to creating a place to call "home".
I lived in tents for a while, and then just out of my backpack while backpacking for a couple of months. Home is where I am, that's what I got out of it... right now I am at home, if I go outside I am at home, even if I go to Walmart, that is my current home... ...and I make sure to make myself at home anywhere... which includes taking off my shoes and being loud
I lived in a step van for a short while. I also have lived in tents seasonally and in a small car, solo, for six weeks. the possiblities for "retirement" are yurt, dome, school bus, old train cars, Zome. Underground home is an option, too
My husband took the camper back off of a pickup truck (Not the little plastic & glass, the type that was supposed to resemble a travel camper.) He put it on the ground at his friend's house and lived in it a few months. The friend liked to argue constantly and he needed a break. (The friend is a member here and I hope he reads this. Maybe he'll finally write me back.)
also live on teh water, in a boat or on a boat, sailboats are best, travel anywhere your say 30+ foot boat will ago-go.
Unfortunately, I live in a house..which is really boring. But it's the bit about being "at home" that struck me. I often have periods where I feel I don't belong anywhere and it's really disturbing...at times I feel like I want to move back to where I was born, sometimes I feel I want to go somewhere completely different and make that my home...I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for, but one day (hopefully) I'll find it Oh, and I wanna live in a van
