"The Horse's Mouth" by Joyce Carey

Though not specifically a "beat" or "hippie" book, this book tells the story of an aging down on his luck painter. It is all about the spirit of creation and idividuality. Not only that--it is funny as hell.

It may be hard to find nowdays. Check out used book sites on the web for a real treat.

 

Yes - this is one awesome book! Definitely addresses the workings of the creative, free spirit. I was inspired to read it after seeing the excellent film of the book starring Alec Guinness (you gotta see it if you haven't already!). Thanks for reminding me about this great book!
