Whew - I'm done web editing for a while! Back to sewing! I finally finished my site update for now, with a bunch of comfy-cozy pullover hoodies. Check em out.... http://www.hummblebee.com/hoodies/index.html Much love, lovlies!
Wow so you do all the web editting yourself. Nice work on our site. And your items are really nice. You long did it take to do that batch. Wow you make me want to bust out my machine. But i am in the middle of moving across country. So i have to fight the urge.
Thanks! I studied graphic design/visual communications in school - so web design is as much up my alley as is sewing. It's pretty nice as long as I keep things rolling and keep the bills paid (which they, err, aren't, right now), because on any given day I can be either sewing or blowing glass or working on the website, or just sitting around designing fun new things to do in any of the above media. I keep pretty busy! I don't do hoodies in a batch. It's just too much to keep track of, so I do them one at a time. Each one takes me 10-15 hours.
Ok, I'm broke...Also, officialy sorry I clicked on this thread, because those are really nice! I'd buy if'n I could swing it! I did want to tell you how nice they are though....Damn!
what sort of a profit do you turn doing this? now that i've got my new sewing machine i'm trying to convince my mate that with a little work i could earn money from home selling my wares online... but i never hear anything good about it!
It's hard, that much is sure. I wouldn't be able to do it like this if my partner didn't work full-time and pay most of the bills. In the last year things have picked up considerably, but that's largely because my website has been around, mapped by search engines and generating hits for years. I've also been sewing and designing unique clothes for years, so I have all that experience to fall back on. That said, anyone can do it if they have a mind to. You've just gotta be prepared for the occasional month when nobody buys a damn thing. You might want to look into getting an eBay or etsy shop. I sold (mostly glass) on eBay for a while when I was getting started. Lots of the mommas up here do well with their etsy shops, but I have no experience either way with that. Good luck!
Haha, I just have to chime in on that, that you can have a month where no one buys anything and then you can have everyone buys all your stuff all at once. Its weird like that. so budgeting is a really good thing to do.
