If I don’t like how you raise your dog - I won’t work for you.

Hello! I have been a self-employed - residential grounds keeper on Vancouver Island for the past 15 years. In those 15 years I have only crossed 2 customers out of my books - and this was mostly because I didn’t like how they were raising their dogs.

The first customers I crossed out of my books were a married couple and a dog named Philip. I used to book 1 day a week for these customers. And ever time I was there the woman would tell me that “their” dog Philip liked her more then her husband.

(And I could see why that was beginning to be true.)

There were lots of times that I would see Philip going over to the husband for pats or play but the wife would say in a stern voice – no Philip come here - then give him pats and tell him he was a good dog. But what really made me start thinking about stopping working for them was when I saw Philip growl at the husband. And this was because the wife had just left to go to town – Philip noticed that the back door was open and he wanted to go follow her. The husband stepped into the doorway to stop Philip and the dog growled at him.

Philip is a big Siberian husky and I got the feeling the husband was a little bit scared.

On the humorous side the wife used to make Philip wear a hand knitted sweater. And a Siberian husky wearing a hand knitted sweater was a little embarrassing to be around.

The reason I crossed the second customers out of my books was because they had a little Coker Spaniard that would snarl and bark at the heels of every one that walked past their house.(mothers with kids, little old ladies everybody)

Once in a blue moon the husband would step out side and say to the people – its OK – she’s just stupid – and I would always think no buddy you are. And that’s not a good working relation ship. Cheers and happy weekend!
