I was wondering if anyone knows how you find renters that will accept you without a credit check. My wife and I are planning to move to Oregon as our first step towards stepping out of the rat race. We have a great rapport with our current landlord but bad credit. Any info or advice will be most appreciated, thanks! Matthew

Make sure to get a letter of recommendation from your current landlord.

    Bank Statements. for 3 months

    Paystubs for for 4 weeks.

    W-2's for two years.

Assuming that you are paying two months security deposit, Having
some extra cash on deposit will help.

Find a home owner who is renting out his house. Most will not run a credit check, some others can be convinced.

Pay in cash - cash talks big and no-one looks in the larder once the cakes and biscuits are on the table

Yes I have rented home and since its hard for a private party to go after a credit rating for failure to pay I never take the time.

As for a landlord giving a good reference well I will give a good reference just to get a bad person out of one of my homes.

Cash talks, word of mouth, freinds, and basically a good not kiss ass attitude does it for me.

If you gonna have a rent issue, say it asap, offer to do something to help make it right if possible, a little effort goes a long way in my book.

Also make sure your car is clean inside and out, show up with a trashed car and well they might think that is how you live too.

Well i was not earning the right amount of income. So i had a gaurantor [my parents]. Maybe if somebody is willing to become a garauntor for you. That would ease the mind of a new land lord. Mine runs for 1 year, that i think is a little ridiculous. I think if you can agree 3-6 months, you may get some one that would help.

Maybe the citizens advice bureau, could help. i don't know if they have that type of thing in Oregon !.

The other advice is better than mine.

A nice down payment usually helps in any situation with bad credit.

Have no clue about Oregon. But some places it's hard enough for a landlord to find folks who will be able to keep up on rent, let alone pay a security deposit or be able to come up with references. If you find an area like that it won't be too hard, sometimes folks will even let you work off some rent by doing work to the place. Making a good impression is the most important thing of all. Ref's are b.s., 'cause folks will give a good ref just to get rid of somebody... And then there are caretaking situations. I've NEVER paid rent anywhere, just had to clean up and fix up several places... Just get things in writing, whatever you agree to...
