This is one of the better e-mails I have received in a long time! I hope this makes its way around the USA several times over!!!!! So Be It! THE LAW IS THE LAW So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words "under God" to be on our money, then, so be it. And if that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments" are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it. I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen. I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions I would like to think that those people have the American public's best interests at heart. BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE? Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don't believe The Government and its employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that Our government is eliminating from many facets of American life. I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter. After all, it's just another day. I'd like the " US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays." After all, it's just another day. I'd like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the "Christmas Break." After all it's just another day. I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter. It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week To a government that is trying to be "politically correct." In fact... I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshipping God...) because, after all, our Government says that it should be just another day.... What do you all think???? If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop giving in to the "minority opinions" and Begin, once again, to represent the "majority" of ALL of the American people. SO BE IT........... Please Dear Lord, Give us the help needed to keep you in our country! 'Amen' and 'Amen' Touche! These are definitely things I never thought about but from now on, I will be sure to question those in government who support these changes. At the top, it says "I hope this makes its way around the USA several times over!!!!!" Let's see that it does. Keep sharing, and re-sharing it whenever someone new comes along. The US is a country that stands for freedom of religion not oppression. You want to teach your children the ten commandments, you have that right. You wish to pray to your god you can do that silently without forcing others that don't worship your god to conform to your beliefs. Or is it that you wish all to believe as you do? If you wish to work on the high holy days, or christian holidays I am sure you can find an employer that will be willing to accomodate you.
The majority of people in this country, like it or not, are christian. And the majority does rule, if no buisness closed on Christmas; what about the 4th of July? Both days are just symbols for something.
The fact is that the government says no religion, yet they celebrate all of the religous holidays. Its not opression, it's hypocrazy
although there is another side, like it was said above, there is a majority in the country, and they had to work on holidays, then their familes would suffer too, because they would be without them on these days, and its not ALL the government officials who choose for the dollar bill not to say that, etc.
These " OMG I'm so reactionary and witty " email are always trite and poorly thought out. So is it a Jewish thing that government workers take Saturday off too - or is it just the weekend like most of us have. The origins of the day off don't need to mean anything more than, phew it's a day off. Days off happen and if they happen on days that happen to mean something to the majority of the people, then that's good planning. There's a difference between work scheduling and plastering dogma in prominent places that are supposed to bastions of neutrality and nonprejudicial. And what drew me to this thread in the first place: I didn't break the law! I am the law!
“Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” Steven Weinberg Our language is based on conceptual paradigms. Conceptual paradigms are the lenses through which we perceive reality and the very foundation of our language is based on separation and denial. Monotheistic religions define hierarchal bureaucracy and our government is one. The idea that there is a separation between religion and government is a joke. Jews, Moslems, Christians…all from the same mold. Monotheism is NOT passive! The gardens, nature, music and dance each reflect interconnectedness and celebration. Mother Nature cuts through the blindness of our thoughts and speak directly to our intuition. But beware of the Satanic cults that confuse and demonize that which is wholly and makes it un-wholy… Holy!
Well said. The fact that there is no use of the term God in the Constitution, says a lot I think for the intentions of the formulation of this country's laws and jursiprudence. The fact that several national holidays coincide with religious holidays says more about popularity and an attempt to accomodate the majority. For them to use this as an argument to install more of their dogma into the workings of your government is convoluted at best.
And, to you, Gardener...Well said! I get a dozen or so of these types of emails every week, and they mostly get dumped in ye old trash bin. What surprises me the most about the Christian's fights on the holidays...is that all of the High Holy Daze are based on Pagan ritual and ceremony, not Christianity. Christians adopted the days and symbolism to further their own agenda : bringing their gospel to the pagans, and subsequently, the rest of the world. I'll agree with posting the Ten Commandments all over our government building's walls when the President erects a Maypole on the Whitehouse lawn!:hurray:
It wasn't just about an agenda, the way the holiday's fell out there actually is almost what I was getting at. When the big pow pow (First Council of Nicaea) started to sort out the Xtian dogmatic problems of the time - part of this was the choosing of dates. Xtainity on the uprise (no longer being persecuted) but still with a goodly amount of paganism going on it was just common sense and logistics to coincide the holiday's together. Again, this was probably more about effective scheduling than being subversive.
Who cares what the U.S. does, the American people have chosen their leaders, have chosen their government, let them live with that choice.
yeah um dude...your talking to "them" anyway it is a hypocritical system, one that has a seperation between church and state and yet observes religious holidays, 4th of july IS a symbolic holiday but not of religious nature...well ok maybe to some super patriots, though the religious holidays, based either on christianity or paganisim, opr by the liitle blue elf who lives in the clouds, would be a religious thus church holiday that the U.S goverment is observing...... does not make much sence if the U.S policy is to ignore or throw away those same religious beliefs or symbols of that religious belief, only to observe others of the same faith network. although x mas is not really to do with christ's birth anymore, nor verymuch about him at all rather the consumption of wealth and materials by the mass ....its a celebration of giving, recieving, buying and selling, family and home coming..... That what is bieng celebrated, though yes originally brought to be from christian beliefs, and further back ....ok well the date anyway was put unto a pagan holiday when the catholic church started absorbing certain religious holidays in eroupe with there own workings. still the point remains: political correctness by withdrawingthe mention of god........should not then the withdrawl of state holidays for the worship of such god? I mean it makes clear sence philisophically, though realistically it does not, it would be thrown aside by even a muslim judge with any deep conection to american culture the holiday has been completely absorbed and molded by such...it would be impossible that it would not be observed in some manner........ people dont do anything about what pisses them off, or even about whats right, they dont stand up for there freedoms in theory, or there religious oppression in "theory", if it does not directly effect them...it may directly piss them off...but not enough for anyone to do anything about it........... people , americans especially...sorry americans, this is simply my observation....dont act unless it costs them something, civil war...TAXES....revolutionary war...TAXES.... ww2...you didnt fight the damn thing till the end of it but when you did you fought to keep control of the huge enterprise and grip of the global economy that america had gained due to the war effort, since that time ...not before america has become a super power...by feeding weapons...BOTH SIDES, then choosing the victor to maintain its own directive... vietnam...economy afganastan, revenge..too easy, yet the pipeline you secured helped lets bomb iraq, against UN protical but in order to secure a military presence in that region...and oil... and finally to emphasise my point once more, AMERICA will NEVER cease to observe a holiday even if it is hypocritical and illogical because it makes sence....its just to profitable to stop....bottom line people will not stand up for there freedoms, until it is too damn late and soldiers with guns prevent you from going to your church.....and according to religious prophecies ...same faith that holds christmas...that will happen as well, though no revolution succseeds..... ok thats my rant on that....it may piss folk off, touches a lot of bottons...though whats not true about it, I am so willing to be proven wrong. peace
I don't get why anybody has a problem with the 10 commandments. Not like it's telling you to do something bad... It's just because it came out of a certain book? So, now we should worry about ANY quote out of ANY book, just to be fair... I don't see why anybody has a problem with anyone elses religion as long as it's not hurting anyone or getting in their way. And religion is not supposed to be about hurting anyone. If your religion says it's just OK to kill or maim, or steal, or screw your buddys wife, then it's time to find a new god to worship... Well, on the brighter side, at least if it's illegal to post the 10 commandments in government buildings, then I'd say they are being honest about their real position in the greater scheme of things... Nothing godly there. Max, way off topic here, but, the "american people" have not chosen their leaders. Only about 28% claim to believe in what the great BUSH is up to. The rest would rather see him outta there... The REAL majority of american people don't have a chance to have it "their way". The elections are rigged. The rich get their way. The MAJORITY are not rich. The american people are trapped in a system where the majority can not make much difference. We are only given one way to have our government, thank-you-very-much, and a system where you must either vote for the lesser of 2 evils or not vote at all, and then not be assured that your vote actually counts, is no way to give anyone any real choices. But that's neither here nor there. Now, back to the topic, I don't get why anyone even makes a big deal about all of this. Yes, cute email. But it's sentiment is no better than the one it protests. How about live and let live? How about if we all celebrate any holiday any way we want and let others do the same? How about if we let the folks who work at the court house go ahead and decorate the walls with any quote from any book they like? Who does care, indeed.
Monotheism is NOT passive. It demands conformity and in the process cultivates conflict. It isn’t so much the ONE GOD b.s. but the put no other god before me crap. Look at the Jews, Christians and Muslims fighting it out…all from the same mold…my way or the highway. If we need a fundamental conceptual paradigm let it be Mother Nature. We don’t need to stick our heads in the sky looking for salvation. We need to firmly plant our feet on Mother Earth, plant seeds of sharing and caring, pull the weeds of competition and exploitation and celebrate the harvest of peace and love. Well, that is an interesting theory. Sadly it doesn’t work in a conformist capitalistic society. Government should represent the interest of all citizens, whatever their belief and it should not promulgate distructive self-righteous imperialistic ideology.
