Then you are a rare breed. In my eyes, you are like me...a women's rights advocate, not a feminist. In the eyes of many who call themselves feminists, you wouldn't be a feminist.
Not at all, i'm there by choice. I found a space where i could complement my thoughts and ideas with my academic commitments.
I always knew when the Wimmmyns's studies lecture let out. I was beset upon by a bunch of heavyset women with shaven heads and beaded African hats blaming me for literally everything wrong with the world. No word of a lie, all men steered clear of the 2nd floor, NE lecture hall on Thursday Afternoons.....
i think that had more to do with television and media and not women having the right to vote. as a woman who used to attend a southern baptist church here in west texas, i know some college aged girls perspectives, and well.... they would support this organization because they believe men and women have VERY separate roles and they should encompass these ideals, and not strive for equality, because woman and men are not equal, they are different and have different qualities and strengths that god gave them. hopefully that's a short description of why they disagree with feminism. and this is not to say that i agree with them at all. i think that men and women should be treated equally in the workplace and have the same rights and priveleges. obviously our society is still divided in many ways, not just in gender, but we shoudl still all be given equal oppurtunities to do what we want in life.
LOL a firefighter? Where did you get that idea? I am such a girly girl that being a firefighter just isn't me...at all. I am studying to be a history teacher. Women who are anti-feminist, at least in my case, are against the feminism that started with NOW. Getting the right to vote is a Women's rights and a human rights issue...think Susan B. Anthony instead of Gloria Steinam. And I don't know where you get the idea I hate people. Like the vast majority of ARA's I think all members of the animal kingdom have rights, including humans. Also, I'm a member of Amnesty International. If I hated people, you'd know it. I will say though that I hate rednecks, and Paris Hilton pisses me off. A guy friend of mine made the comment that she is only good with a cock in her mouth...I think I have to agree with that. I don't hate women, I am just not a feminist, at least not in the NOW sense. I also hate that word...feminist. I am a womens rights advocate, and am very proud to be one. I will not, however, give up my right to be a good wife and mom, if that is what I choose. I will also defend to the end ANYONE'S right to work in the adult industries...whether they are male or female.
LOL!!!!!!! well, that sure it not even close to my women's studies group, i'd say 50% of the class are just there because they couldnt fit another class in their schedule, or they had it as a core module. of course girls are the great majoritys (in fact i think there are only two boys in the whole group) but no-one of the 50% of willing students, including myself, fit any of the stereotypes of man hating, butch lesbian feminist. I'm sure you're exaggerating, i dont feel like hating men after my lectures, quite the contrary, i feel like i should try to explain a little about what it feels like to be a woman and have the opportunity to take part of an interesting discussion at a university, after all, it was only 70 years ago that women like myself werent allowed to study.anyway i'm off to bed *blows kiss*
RE: i feel like i should try to explain a little about what it feels like to be a woman and have the opportunity to take part of an interesting discussion at a university, Thanks, but I've heard it. Over, and over.
Being a feminist doesn't mean you can't be a stay at home mom or that you are a bitchy know-it-all. Sheesh. How can any woman be anti-feminist? Do they think women can't be raped by their husbands, that their husbands should be allowed to beat them, or that they shouldn't vote, or shouldn't be able to work in the fields they want? Feminism has made the world a lot better to live in for women, and I could never be against any movement that improves living conditions for anyone. The world still has steps to take as far as women's rights, and we shouldn't be against the movement now just because some people take it too far. No real feminist would dislike a woman for choosing to be a stay-at-home mom. The feminist would be happy that this woman is empowered enough to have a choice in the matter.
RE: No real feminist would dislike a woman for choosing to be a stay-at-home mom. The feminist would be happy that this woman is empowered enough to have a choice in the matter. Unless they were jealous.
Many women, myself included, have turned away from the modern feminist movement because many of the leaders have, as you said; "Taken things too far." I am a human rights, animal rights, and women's rights activist, but I am not a feminist...and I never will be.
well, honestly, i would just call that playing with words, changing euphamisms. to me they're the same thing.
FuzzyWuzz, as a 57 your old Male, what makes you think you have the right to come into a thread where abortion was NOT brought up and preach your gospel. SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY! we've heard you before! As far as that site is concerned, I've lived in a place where women tend to believe that way, my mother being one of them. I went through a radical feminist phase during my youth, but I am coming to realise of late that I DO want my kitchen back! Raising a family and keeping a house is hard enough without having a job on top of it. I don't, by any means, think that women were better off in a patriarchal society in which they had no voice. However, I do think that the early feminists went just a bit far.
I agree with this, its just way to stressful. Parents today expect their daughters to have good careers and raise familys (and they never say have a kid, they always use the plural 'kid"s"') and their sons to some extent but the women are going to be having the babies. I mean, do whatever you want, but don't have 4 kids and become a lawyer, or your life is going to suck, and your going to want to kill yourself alot, and nobody will be able to help. Even with a husband who works all day every day as much as you do (aside from having kids), you will still be stressed and depressed. Theres no need to have more than 1 kid anyway, or adopt just 1 kid, that way you don't have to have the baby. I just don't like seeing all these working mothers depressed, and I hate it when some dumbass comes along and says "women get stressed more easily than men". Along with your parents, society is pretty wacked. Many of the women on television shows are beautiful, have full time careers, and several children, and television shows have been this way for many many years.
i dont think being a feminist means not wanting to have kids and get marry and have a family....its all about the fact that the state (the governement, other social structures for that matter) benefit certain groups and women arent one of them. From not having enough nurseries for working mothers to paying women less than their male peers for the same hours worked, its a matter of inequality, why would i get less if i dont have a penis? what makes me less capable? because i can bear children? or because the patriarchal state dont want women to occupy more space in authority so they keep things nice and easy for men as they are until now? thats what feminism questions, it's not about hating men, it's about questioning why such inequalitites exist.
Who ever said a father can't stay home with the kids though? I had a stay-at-home father and loved it!
Thats womens rights feminism, then theres feminazism, which is something else entirely (hating men actually). I support women 100% in being equal and in my mind they are, but I don't think that the way the world is now that even though they made huge amounts of progress here in the U.S., that much will happen in other countries.
i've never heard of feminazism. That should be another topic altogether.... It's got nothing to do with what feminism wants to achieve. feminism is about accepting difference to achieve equality, sounds like a contradiction, but thats the principal dilema here...to what extent are men and women different and if they are does that mean that one is less capable than the other? The man hating, butch lesbian feminist is more of a patriarchal myth. sure there are women who hate men and call themselves feminists, but they are not helping feminism move forward, totally the opposite.
So you think that these ladies are well *ahem* WANT to be controlled by their men and god? Wow, you have so much to learn. You are those type of people who always belive what you wish to believe. Have you even MET a godly woman, or in other words, a REAL woman, who isn't concererned with rivaling men? You people! I can't believe what trash you are saying. You are the reason this world is going down. Innocent babies are being killed because "oh, we must be as great as men". We can't have any more children that one or two because we must work, we must make sure they go to college, we must have enough luxuries blah blah blah.... Errr!, woman are as great as men in their own ways. Yeah go ahead, rolls those eyes, snort, whatever. But you know, you will always know in your heart deep inside, and I'm guessing really really really deep down that those women are REAL women. So stop ridiculing them! I don't think you will ever stop. Which is too bad, it was your family generations past that handed down those values down through the family that made you think this way. That is how women are powerful. They control the masses by how they raise their children, how they think about things. The children are the ones who are going to be voting for the next leaders, representors of the world. The individual family is the world, and the first thing that cares and cuddles with a baby is its mother. That baby is going to look to its mother and father for approval and guidance for the rest of its life. Oh yeah, anyone can be a rebel, but that person will always carry guilt, to the end of his or her days. I don't care if I'm being rude, but if you think that silly ninny women can be quiet and stupid, you are so totaly wrong. You so do not rock. Hope you have peace.. somehow
