Havent really noticed if anyone has posted about them, just wondering if anyone here likes em? I'm not really a big fan, but I like a few songs by them. I guess I'm not really into progressive rock either, I just love Yes and Genesis, but they are so unlike any other bands called progressive that I cant get enough of them. Really I listen to jazz and rap and sometimes grateful dead and other tripped out music, but to me nothing can compare with YES. But anyway, about Gentle Giant, I think I only really like the Octopus album, has some good jams on it although the singing is a little too weird for me.
I thought they were really a cool band if you took the time to really listen to the albums a few times. As the 2nd lp was titled,"Aquiring the taste",that is exactly what you had to do with this band.I have most of their albums, but I'm missing "In a glass house" which I am looking for.I don't like their later albums beginning with "Interview" except for "Playing the Fool" which is a great "Live" record. The singing was a bit strange. All Music Guide describes it as "medieval style".What I liked most was the complex instrumentation and musical changes. These cats could Play !
I have a few songs by them, they're an ok band. I really like Free Hand, it's a brilliant, quirky song. I recently got Gentle Giant live a Club Karen in Sweden, haven't listened to it yet but it should be interesting. Yes, the style of singing is strange and I'm sure everyone has an opinion on it. I dislike it, but I'll put up with it for the good music! I think this guy my dad works with played with these guys in the band that evolved into Gentle Giant, could be wrong though.
I m not really into them... I ve heard that their 75 Free hand lp is easily one of their best? It s difficult to hear it... One of their only album i found more or less interesting is their 2nd lp 'Aquiring the Taste' ... one of their most spacy... even if 'spacy' is not an easy words to say in the Gentle Giant vocabulary...
Try the debut men. You'll see where the bad band Queen copied the closing of 'A night at the opera' Album from...
Oh yea? I havent heard any Giant lately, but for some odd reason I had this one song of Octopus stuck in my head all day at work, so mayve its time for some relistening
BUT, a classical album still Im more concerend about these cracken I hear about on Pirates of the Carribean, now that would fuck some shit up!
