Don't rely on the corporate media to give you necessary information. They are owned by the same interests that started the war to begin with. FOX, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS: one unilateral disinformation campaign. The reason FOX is so rabid is to make the others appear more..."liberal".
That is a good point.. they're not going to focus on the people that disagree with the war. People say protests won't do anything but I think it does something.. especially when its a big one, I think it still sends a message even if the government denies that. Even if its subconsious. And what else can ya do? I don't really know.. fuck. You can be a free thinker man!
Protests are great, but they are not enough. A complete musical and cultural revolution is needed...that's what it took to end the Vietnam War! The new song "Mirror Door" by The Who asks "Will we have music or will have war?" Well, we'll have American militiary music even if we have the Bush neo-con's endless war and a generation is drafted and sacrificed. The real question is whether we will have a radical global movement fueled by music, or will we just die like dogs in endless wars for OIL! Of course, with the help of the internet we CAN build a global musical counter-culture even stronger than that of the '60's and '70's. Then again, when I even try to bring up a protest song in the Hip Forums music forum it seems to sink like a stone. So I really don't know how many people here even have the determination and free spirit to be involved in the new cultural revolution when it comes.
I was watching a special on all of the music festival protests in DC during the Vietnam War and wondered why nothing like that happens nowadays.
I cut class and went with my friend, Lunchbox, to the one in Royal Oak. Funny thing you should mention "Mirror Door" because it was on the radio when we were driving to Royal Oak. With our luck, the only protest songs that we're going to get are going to be written by Bono...i like U2, just not that much. I try to write but writer's block gets the best of me.
Quel coincidence! (pardon my French) The Who seems to have touched on something important and timely with that new song. But actually, the whole Endless Wire album it comes from is great. You can find videos of some of the songs at YouTube, and now The Who is doing a massive ecstatic tour to back up their points.
ahmet kaya was good at expressing his ideas about freedom and rights of people. if you want to listen to him i can send you some songs.
