Can i ask what may be regarded as a really stupid question. What is the difference between Cannabis & Marijuana.
cannabis always made me think of the plants form and marijuana as the bud lol but i guess it doesn't matter
^^^ we shouldn't mock those who are humble enough to admit to not knowing something to ask a question... neways. Cannabis is part of the latin name for Marijuana. It's the root word of "Canvas", since most canvas and sails at the time were made from hemp (this was waaaay back in the day, mind). Contrary to what most people think today, cannabis had been used for millenia mainly for it's solid fibers (they threw out the buds and kept the stems, go figure). Cannabis was extremely common in early american culture (George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both grew it, and Ben Franklin smoked hash in paris). However, after prohibition ended a lot of bureucrats lost their funding and needed a new public scourge to save americans from. Around this time the psychoactive uses of the plant were relatively confined to minority groups (mainly mexican migrants and black city residents), mainly due to it's extremely low potentcy (it was a ditch-weed that was bred for it's fibers, not it's THC content, so it was probably pretty shitty stuff). The g'vt needed to demonize this plant in order to ban it, and since the names cannabis and hemp were so commonplace and benign they came up with the word "Marijuana" (It sounded more mexican). The rest, as they say, is history.
