The US attacked Somalia citing "Islamic terrorists", I don't think Bush took this to congress for a vote. Is it any coincidence that in Somalia they've discovered new oil! Sounds familiar. Bustramp
This isn't new news, the US has been launching strikes at militants in Somalia since 1993. After the withdrawl there were still many smaller CIA actions, and there have been several in 2006. Oil in Somalia isn't new either.
Well, it's nothing against him. Some articles I've read today say it's the first strike since '93. No conspiracy or anything, but there have been several operations within somalia which weren't so covert. I just speak matter of factly sometimes. I have no hostility towards bustramp.
i hope you take all this so well when the somalis decide to start attacking your countrymen in return. what goes around comes around. launching war on the world does two things first it makes people angry then it decides to get even, it is only a matter of time before we see return fire in a highly organised and high tech way. the us getting involved in such a high profile way makes the us even more of a target than it already is. i doubt if the "militants" are just going to roll over and die so easily.
I have no stake in this. I'm not taking it well, nor do I have any intrest in someone because they are American or Somali. Moreover, most citizens of Somalia don't consider Somalia a country.
I don't think America can ever win. Damned if they do and damned it they don't. I'm not sure how many support the 'islamic movement' in that country, but yet again it will be the extremists that will dominate the reaction to the situation. ''somalis decide to start attacking your countrymen in return. what goes around comes around.'' I just think the 'network' of islamic fundementalists bounce around 'failed states', claiming to 'speak for the people' ... then go around buthchering the poor buggers if they disagree. To say ''when the somalis '' is pigeon holeing the whole darn lot of them, when it is 'outsiders' fueling this extremism. Who that is, i suppose is down to your prejudice.
the idea of a little thing called the UN was to stop countries from attacking each other. its predecessor the league of nations wanted to stop all the wars too, people like hitler decided he didn't like these people as one of his overiding ambitions was to invade other peoples countries. as a rule of thumb, states that like attacking other countries don't as a general like the UN, the biggest question mark in my head is why the UN is still in america, they need to relocate quickly!
Relocate it where and why ?. It is not a country that is being 'dealt with' it is a group of islamic fundementalists. I don't think countries are attacking each other merely trying to remove a group of 'terrorists' from within it. MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali and Ethiopian forces skirmished with Islamic militiamen in southern Somalia early Thursday, setting off a brush fire, residents said by two-way radio. The fighting comes after Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said his forces were carrying out mop-up operations against Islamic militants in the extreme southern corner of Somalia and that he expected to withdraw his troops within a few weeks U.S. and Somali officials said Wednesday a small American team has been providing military advice to Ethiopian and Somali forces on the ground. The officials provided little detail and spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information. The U.S. forces entered Somalia with Ethiopian forces late last month when Ethiopians launched their attack against the Islamic movement said to be sheltering al-Qaida figures, one of the officials said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070111/ap_on_re_af/somalia_322 Russia's U.N. Ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, the current council president, told reporters after a closed-door meeting Wednesday that members regard Somalia as "a high priority matter" and are concerned about instability, security, and the humanitarian situation. "They expressed their support for the plan to send a humanitarian assessment mission to the border between Somalia and Kenya and spoke of the importance of adequate humanitarian support for Somalia," he said. "They strongly supported inclusive political dialogue among various political forces in Somalia. They favor speedy deployment of IGASOM," a new force to be set up by the African Union and a seven-nation regional group. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070111/ap_on_re_af/un_somalia_5
sending troops across the border should be done under the auspices of the UN not troops of america and the wild hicks of the american airforce machinegunning everything in sight. this is going to be a long war.
*sarcasm*Check the truth out dude... it always is the best thing to do. I do not want to continue being the person who gives you the reality. You are a fully paid up member of the adult race, and should appreciate that what you are saying is not the truth. Please negotiate the most simplistic of truths before you say what you say. *humility* If i am am wrong, please be more specific on your point of view. Please give a bit more 'source' material, please.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2007-01-11-US-somalia_x.htm?csp=34 "None of three top suspected terrorists in Somalia was killed in a U.S. airstrike this week, but Somalis with close ties to al-Qaeda were killed, a senior U.S. official in the region said Thursday." Piney, does this answer your question: "In Washington, officials had said U.S. special operations forces were in Somalia. U.S. and Somali officials said Wednesday a small American team has been providing military advice to Ethiopian and Somali forces on the ground. The officials provided little detail and spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information."
Well..considering you were like 3 when that happened, I'll excuse that. Black Hawk Down was when we made a covert attempt to remove a hideous dictator named Idi Amin from Somalia. His militias were stealing UN supplies and food, meant for the people, at gunpoint. They were commiting genocide as well. We took the best of the best of our military and tried to strategically capture Amin with little casuality. However, there was an intelligence mishap and we underestimated the militias' fire-power. Because of the whole moral motto "No man left behind"...we had to send in small groups of troups to rescue the troopers that were shot down in the middle of a genocidal warzone. The movie is actually based on an excellent book written by the soldiers who were actually there. We weren't there "throwing rocks at Somalia". We were there with the UN trying to give food and medical supplies to the people effected by Amin's inhumane policies. Not everything the military does is TEH SOOPER EVOL.
Who is that directed at ?. If that is anybody that disagrees with you, then i may regardless. I have thought about 'joining up'. I don't think that is a requirement when anybody tells me too. I'de have done 150 years service, by now.
I think you're referring to Aideed. Idi Aman was from Uganda. http://www.zmag.org/content/ForeignPolicy/MonbiotBlackHawk.cfm The raid in Somalia has to go down as one of the most bungled operations in U.S. history. .
Thank you for the correction. I tend to agree....it doesn't mean that we were "throwing rocks at Somalia" though.
