This shirt took me about 6 or 7 hours to make, but it's done and I'm happy with it The more blurry picture is the true colour of the shirt, but clear one shows more detail on the bodice. EDIT: There is also an empire waste band if it's not visible.
It's absolutely wonderful! I really like it. Is it a darker red color? Did you work from a pattern or is this a creation of your own?
It does have a zipper in the back but as I found out after I put it on, I could put it on without having to unzip the zipper. Had I known I was a little smaller than I thought, I would have just cut the back piece on a fold and made one big back piece instead of two zipped together. Oh well. Live and learn. I'm actually thinking about where my clothes go afterwards though (charity) so I'm glad I put the zipper in because there are always people with different shapes and someone who might need it. I used a french seam with the seams of this shirt (which I have only just now discovered), and it looks and feels awesome. I like it much better than even serged seams, and it doesn't take a lot longer.
Sounds great! I tend to make things too big as well. I once made a dress a size larger than I wore, but it seemed to be 3 sizes too large when I tried it on. I cut out a 3 inch strip all the way down the back and made a seam. It looked really good. I really hate to mess with zippers, though.
You can never really tell what size you take in a pattern. Sometimes at the bottom of the back envelope of the pattern it says finished size. Usually that is pretty acurate. Measuring the chest size of the pattern helps. I usually make up a trial run of the pattern first with fabric I'm not totally in love with. See how that fits and then tweak it from there.
Yeah I would do that for something like a grad dress (although I didn't for mine .. not enough time!), but I just figured "you can always take it in, you can't always take it out." I'll make a new thread with that grad dress, I don't think I ever showed it off! haha.
