Hi all. I need to ask a few question about dreadlocks.
I have a sleek straight hair. This is my second time dreading. The first time was a complete failure. Some of them dreaded, but most of my dreads wouldn't even dread. The came out when I washed my hair. When I combed them out, it didn't even take much effort. I used the backcomb method and use a woolen beanie to frizz them, but nothing seems to work. Is there any way to dread my silky damn straight hair? I don't wish to go for dread perm because I don't have enough cash. Thanks for reading. and thanks in advance for answering. :)

Stop using conditioner, start washing with residue free shampoo. I had lovely long silky hair and once I changed what I washed my hair with it started looknig pretty fast, but they do take time, I've been locking up for 7 months and I still have hair that hasnt even started locking.

my hair was so super straight and silky - the kind non dreadies want as their hair! but not a dreadie's worst enemy. the key to mine locking was just to let the hair be long enough for it to tangle. my locks are about six years old and they locked all by themselves (for real) without me even trying - in fact, i battled it for a while. now, my hair is (was) so so silky. so my hair locked when it was down to bout my shoulders. even now, six years later, i still have little loose areas that are totally silky and don't want to lock, so i leave em alone. but otherwise my head is happily dreaded.
so let your hair grow, first of all. second, use dr. bronners. used it without intending to lock my hair, and it sorta forced it in that direction. third, stop fussing, have patience, and eventually it'll lock up.

also, if your hair is getting locked at the bottom but not the top, do a 'topsy tail' maneuver where you split the lock in two by the roots and put the bottom through. that'll tighten it up.

my daughter has silky straight super fine red hair. As long as I kept backcombing it, dreads were not forming, it just kept falling out and coming loose. When I stopped backcombing is when it really started knotting up good.
