Recently I got a backdoor Trojan noticed on my system my provider is investigating the matter.. if it's a keylogger..they will have to find his IP adress.. and block the fucker...this is internet abuse.. any advice??I guess it's an SD.bot.bcc?? Tiger
look for an anti key logger also one way that may provide info about whether its a keylogger or not is that if you open a word processing package or notepad then start typing you will probably see the lights flashing on your modem as you type IF you have a keylogger - its not a 100% reliable method of detection but can be usefull infact its about 60 - 70 % successful but those odds are too low so get yourself a decent scanner like adaware which is free http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 Another thing you should do is to use firefox and get these plugins for it noscript adblock plus http://www.firefox.com again this is all 100%free you cant effectively block anything with internet explorer with those plugins on firefox and with java disabled in your browser you will stop maybe 80% of attacks BUT THE MOST VALUABLE THING YOU CAN DO is to buy a hardware firewall the more expensive the better but even a cheap one will do. Not a software firewall !!! they are next to useless in comparison to physical hardware that you put between the line out to the internet and your computer

Thanks a lot for your useful advice.. a keylogger..can be a small program in software.. or a hacker..in case of a hacker..the provider usually finds.. the IP adress..and the fucker gets trapped..and blocked.. my provider is investigating..they think it could be a hacker.. I personally think..it's a software problem..but..anyway.. let's see what my provider finds out... P.S..I run on Maxthon browser...not bad at all... Tiger...
good luck with that. seriously. not all trojans can be detected though. only the mainstream ones that are built on common code and strings are recognized. that stuff sentient said is probably the best reasonable advice for a die hard Windows user... or you could spend zero dollars and get Linux. actually, most hardware firewalls use Linux. think smoothwall. if you still want Windows, then just load smoothwall onto an old computer and hook it up between your Internet and Windows box. it is well worth looking into.

ok, you dont have to run linux on your desktop to be protected by it. i was saying that hardware firewalls use linux to protect windows machines. but wow, i have never heard anyone say that before 'I don't think I'll ever run on Linux..' no offense. my mom used to run windows untill she got a virus. then she reloaded windows but kept her old files and she thought she was soo cool. nope. the virus came back and now she uses Fedora Core Linux and has not had a problem since. when she used windows, she paid her ISP to provide her with extra security monitoring and software. it never helped. and btw, the helpdesk SUCKS!!! so get linux and spend less time on the phone and more time browsing the Internet.
Helpdesks..yeah..they suck..I know that.. I get in touch with my provider via their abuse net mailbox.. maybe I'll switch to Linux...one day who knows??? Tiger
One thing about ISP helpdesks is that (and I know this for a fact) they just put the phone down and get on with doing something else then if you phone back they make shit up about the problem. Especially if you are just going to get through to someone different next time. They more-or-less view viruses and keyloggers as your problem what aderall was saying is you could get a firewall - but also you could get a cheap pentium 3 computer (or even a pentium2) and build a proxy server / firewall out of linux then put that between the net and your computer quite simple and effective at keeping attacks down Dont rely on your isp tho - theyre not that good at one-to-one security where each desktop on their network is a priority when I think of my isp I think this but it should be this

Thanks..I used this German scanner Antivir before... it's a free virus scanner..but I used the premium version.. not bad..but their heuristic database is not what bitdefender offers.. for trojans,keyloggers,dialers etc..I use other stuff.. point is here..my daily upload/download shows signs.. that a keylogger is or was activ...so..I'll find out.. nothing to worry about..I know a little bit about computers.. it's through making mistakes..and faults..one learns a lot.. but thanks for the tip anyway..antivir is a good scanner.. I always thought it was better then AVG.. Tiger
I'd recommend you BUY a copy of bitdefender and get a hardware firewall a sonicwall, netgear, or cisco
I don't know alot about computers so I keep it clean just so I don't have problems with it. I use IE7 and I did have Mc Afee as it comes free with MSN. I found too many virus's slipped by it though.-I switched to Norton. I have the total protection package and have had not one virus since. I also use Spyware Detector and so far between the two I have had very few problems. I also use Reg Vac and A-I for cleaning and Window Washer.-I defrag with Perfect Disk.-I run it all once a week-

This is 2005 version-I have no pop ups or any promotions at all-I keep it updated so maybe they did away with any of that-I hardly know it's there until I download a program. Then it asks if I want it.I do have to shut off the firewall sometimes to load certain files-It has kept my the system real clean-I know what ya mean about the older versions; they would take alot of mbs and had alot of ads-Not anymore-
Robspace.. My neighbour uses IE Explorer 6.. and put Norton internet security 2006 on it.. he told me..this Norton scanner makes his P.C slower.. the 2007 version should be better..another friend told me Explorer 7.. gets stuck sometimes..Vista might make it better,who knows?? I run only Windows 2000..Bitdefender scanner,Ad Aware,reg cleaner.. IE 6 gave me trouble as well..I changed to Maxthon and Avant.. I run avant on my P.C now..which I think is a good browser.. I recently got lots of trouble with spam..put a spamfilter on it.. but it can't stop spam..any advice?? I have reason to believe some keylogger.. sends spam via my account..that's internet abuse.. that's why my provider is investigating the matter.. I had days of 2,7 Gigabyte upload/download.. can't be..it's back to normal bit now.. but I constantly monitor it..so is my provider.. but like Sentient mentioned before..helpdesks suck.. it takes 30 min..before you get someone connected..
