I went to HK last year on Oct , my intention was go there to vitsit my Americna friend who was going to spend his hoilday there , and he invited me to come there with him since wasnt have a good rest and want a escape from work . But the first impression in HK was terribly disappointed me . I am chinese who live in Canton ( GuangZhou ) , from my accent ( HK ppl speak cantonese , so do i , just a little bit difference from the accent ) the hk ppl were so mean to me cuz they know i from GZ . even the Hotel giving me such bad treat that i have to tell my American friend what they did to me . My friend had an argurement with the Hotel since they did so wrong and wasting time ( the hotel said my friend didnt leave me any massage , making me couldnt check in the room at all , so i have to walked aroun the city alone to wait him back to the hotel ) when the Hotel AM made the aplogize to me , i was so wanted to make a small fighting but i didnt , cuz i wanted to give him a good impression that not all the ppl from Mainland is out of educated and with bad manner only. on he sec day in Hk ..i have to use english for my daily life for everything , i pretend myself is from another country cuz i had enough of how meanful of HK treat the ppl from mainland china . and this is did work , they show me respect and being polite to me , however i felt so sad of it . Cuz we are from the same race and even same lanuage ( Cantonese) . we are ALL ==> CHINESE .
That happens in other places too, where there are island people and mainland people. Each have different cultures and unfortunately think they are better than the others. Good for you keeping calm even though you were mad. It really isn't the hotel's fault if your friend didn't tell them you were coming. They can't just let anyone into people's rooms...
My friend sent many e-mails to tell the hotel i would be coming to the hotel . so when i show my name , then they should let me check in , but they forgot all about this , Thats why my friend so mad at them , plus i asked the hotel if my friend call back to the Hotel ,plz phone me back so i would go back to the hotel and make the booking , however , they didnt which my friend he told me he did phone back to the hotle to chekc if i was in HK already . I think if i was a white girl. this might wouldnt happened . cuz HK ppl just so meaning and making my HK trip so unhappy . i like HK city since my bf is Hk guy , and i should love his city , however , the people..Never .
Taiwanese is similar situation. Espically toward Fujaneese people. Here in the US you should see how New Yorkers view people from New Jersey! its the same!
I dunno... they're both succulent and flavorful, but you're hungry 20 minutes after you're done with the meal.
i consider myself still a newbie in hipforums ..but if possible , i d just like to giving a new and fresh idea of how people think about the chinese nowdays . However , i feel a big distance communication with HK people . Lucky my guy wont do that for me though he s from HK .
I have had students from Hong Kong and I thought they would be quite anti Chinese mainland however I have been surprised at their lack of aminosity toward the Chinese government or others from different parts of China. I think like the other guys have said it is common for people all ovr the world to have an "us and them" mentality. In Australia people quite often poke fun at people from New Zealand but is quite often done with a friendly sort of rivalry. Not taking a few peoples views as being representative of the views of everyone is probably a good place to start and you can build upon breaking down prejudice from there.
If China IS MAD . Then the whole world is MAD as well. We all live in this mad world . And being mad people .
But China got all them little men marching and marching and not even looking up at the sun because it is painted for them in deputistic words. They run run run and only count as statistics. Ahhhhh!
