i was driving cross country back to school the other day...and inbetween switching CDs my radio was playing some sort of Christian talk radio show...and this man kept preaching with certainty about jesus and how those who follow G-d are "heirs to heaven".

please, where are these people? and who is giving them media access?

man, it must be soo nice to have the "right" religion.

Yeah, really. If you don't like it, switch the damn station. How hard is that? Was anybody holding a gun to your head, saying you had to listen to it? People who are religious have every bit as much the right to freedom of speech as you do, whether you personally agree with it or not. That's why it's called freedom-of-speech. It's not freedom of speech according to you, it's simply freedom of speech. Period. Freedom of speech is under attack in this country, and if you support freedom of speech, then you had better support everyone's right to it regardless of your own personal beliefs.

    Yep yep.

I was listening to Hannitty on the radio a while back and he was arguing with a Democrat who wanted to impose a law to balance the information flow on the radio (every show with a conservative viewpoint must also present a liberal one to counter it and so on)... Mostly because the conservatives actually have radio wave dominance.

Not a good Democrat move, that one.

Greetings Lady Surreal, your pardon a moment....

Gentleman? Really now do you all really think, that is a constructive, peace promoting, or loving way, to talk to a sister? On top of that to reply to someone's first thread in the community? I'd advise your take a few minutes away from the sensational issues, like the defense of contitutional rights, and do some serious investigation into a little backwater topic known as civility. You wanna see a radical revolution in people, see to a revival of apparantly disgarded values, such as civility, respect, humility, and politeness. The loss of these, I would assert, more than any other thing, has brought this country, and it's people to the brink of the abyss. Mellow folks mellow, the lady asked a question, she did not throw a gauntlet at your feet. I sincerly hope we don't have to debate this issue, should we not instead devote our energies to the realization of "love and understanding"
I'm really not trying to bust anyones chops, these are the times when the family most needs to pull together and multiply the energy for a better tommorrow.

Lady Surreal, Well come sister, please do not be put off, by the replys so far, although I am as well a neophyte here, I tdo not think this typical of the community, nor of these brothers in general, but you see this is the "protest" forum and just being "here", "amidst" the threads, so woven in outrage can lean any of us towards being reactionary. Be well assured, you are well come to the community.
Perhaps you could find the time to post to the "Introductions" forum and tell us a bit more about the human, being, who formed the questions you put forth here, that bespeak, to my mind, at least, of a keener than average ability to percieve a potential danger to the future of all freedoms, not just that of speech.
Now then, (which of course is an interesting, and literally accurate temporal observation)...
please understand that, by the doctrine of the New Testament, there is no such thing as "some sort of Christian" Someone either "believes (constantly adheres to, trusts in, and relies on) Jesus Christ, as the lord ( denies any right to self determanence in favor of "taking up their cross and following the behavioral example of Christ's life) of their lives, and is then qualifiably, "a Christian, or they have not, and is a pretentious, arrogant, self righteous, ass. I estimate tha only about five percent of those refered to as christians actually are Christians, by the very criteria that Jesus specified, in the gospels, and was later illucidated by Paul, most notably in his various Epistles,(letters) to the young church.

The pretenders are everywhere, and they buy airtime with the money given to the church, for the edifiction of the members, and for the ministry to the sick, the widowed, and for the evangalism of teh Gospel.

There is nothing "nice" about hypocrits.

i would have to say WHO on the radio. you mean some mexican guy named hay suus?

fanatics on the radio, yah. i don't know of any way you're going to get honesty on there at all without somehow leaving a few cracks for fanatical nut cases to crawl through.

there does seem to be a wee bit of licencing bias favoring this one particular flavor of chauvanism though, and that IS wrong, by any convolution of morality.

you can't expect them to totaly not be there. it would be nice if we lived in a country that wanted to be honest and free so that there could be just as many nut cases of other persuasions to counterbalance them to some degree.

they need to be assigned a different part of the dial then collage and indie stations though. so you won't then have to have the problem you discribed. also, isn't it possible to not set you car's sound system in such a way as to not expose you to hap hazard broadcasts between cd's?

and for that matter, have you ever considered the freedom of thought of those not in your car, that is robbed by the passing of inconsiderate drivers with loud soundsystems, what EVER they may happen to be listning to?

in short, have you ever considered perhapse listning to the sounds of nature and tecnology and of your own car? instead of having to be constantly self deprived of such creative inspiration as these latter might otherwise provide?
