I loved the book. Actually, I first got interested in reading it after I saw the classic John Ford Movie made from it. The movie changed the ending some because of censors etc. but still a fine version of it. I hope you enjoyed the book.
It paints an accurate picture of a time and a people in America. Damn good book for provoking thought. It helped me undersatand my parents and grandparents easier. They were products of that time and poor like those people. Its a good book to have as part of your foundation of knowledge of sociey
One of my all time favourite American books. The sideline chapters which interract with the story are probebly one of the most beautiful things I've seen in writing. This makes me want to read that books again.
I went school with the kids of the okies--rough-hewn,take no shit kids that couldn't even afford lunches at school.Over the decades, they've done quite well.
This is one of the greatest novels I've ever read. I was completely floored by it. While I was reading it, I couldn't think of anything else but getting back to my book. I thought differently about the food I was eating because hunger is such a prevelent theme. I thought differently about having to go to work in the morning, too. John Steinbeck is amazing and I will read anything that he wrote. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars and I'll have to wait about 5 or so years before I read it again but I definitely will. After reading that book, I felt like I couldn't read another one because nothing was ever going to measure up to the Grapes of Wrath. How can it?
