For the first time since I became Vegetarian, I find myself having to deal with nits. Normally I'd just kill the blasted things with the poision hair lotiony stuffs, but is there a more humane way of freeing myself from them?
Yeah, mayonnaise if you're not vegan. Dunno if a vegan mayo would work or not but I'd definitely try it first. Put it on really really thick & wrap your head in a shower cap for 30 minutes to an hour before rinsing out. I've also heard that tea tree oil & vinegar can help, but I don't know how or in what concentration. I'm betting that a google search would bring something up though I had that poison shampoo dumped onto my hair once as a kid, and it was strong enough that it took a couple MONTHS for the chemical burns to heal. I think I'd be willing to try ANYTHING before doing that again. Good luck! love, mom
straight oil, with some tea tree also helps: the idea is to deprive them of oxygen (so you are still killing them.) re treat at 2 weeks for any nits that escaped your careful combing. sorry, I'm more than OK with killing a parasite.
If you put straight conditioner in your dry hair until its thickly covered then use a nit comb to comb them out it would be the most humane way.
isopropyl alcohol...my mom used to ue it on me and my sister...although yahno i think nits and such do have a purpse ...why do we kill them to get rid of them???
vinegar + isopropyl alcohol works. I had nits when I was in elementary school and I remember my mom doing this. To this day I hate vinegar because of it.
nits are head lice eggs. the usual treatment kills the adult lice (singular: louse), commonly with a pyrethrin, a flower-derived pesticide. Sorry, sweet dread, they serve no purpose on humans and are VERY contagious. I don't agree with you letting them be, because you put other people at risk.
they are a very very bad thing. your scalp can get infected. If an infection becomes really bad, then it could kill you. They make your scalp inch very bad. My mom had to put socks on my hands when I went to sleep when I had these parasites as a child. Drumminmama is right, other people are at risk when it comes to these critters.
Getting a Nit comb with the teeth close enough together to get the eggs out, (Even if it did hurt like hellm) combined with alot of conditioner, tea tree oil shampoo, and some lotion which left my hair reeking of Spirits for a good couple of hours, But at least their gone now... heh
be sure and check again in 2 weeks for any eggs you might have missed that hatched. And treat your bedding, pillows, stuffed animals, clothing, hats, anything that might harbour the bugs.
