Hey everyone! My head had been itching like CRAZY for months, then I decided to throw out all my scented hair soaps and conditioners and just got a residue free shampoo and my hair has begun to dread up nice and my head is blessedly free of the itchyness. I was worried that the itching would get worse after I started the dread process, but my scalp is so happy!

HELLLOOOO EVERYONE!!! new today... Im a 20 year old anthropology student hoping to become an ethnobotanist. Ive had the locks for a year and 9 months. I have no friends with locks and not many friends with common interests (festivals, making music, photographing plants and fungi). I live in a conservative little lake town south of buffalo. I still live with my parents which is fine with me because i get free housing and my parents hate my locks. I backcombed to start my locks, used wax but got to lazy to keep waxing after acouple weeks THANK GOD! but havent done any maintainance on them since (except wash em once every two weeks or so) I LOVE FAIRY LOCKS!!!

Hi everyone, an update on my progress. (no pics yet, will get some soon). Six weeks ago I went natural, sectioned and backcombed to get even dreads, and it started to look like dreads in just 5 weeks. Trouble is, the hair on the top of my head is a lot thinner than the rest since I used to use steroid cream on the scalp for really bad psoriasis, for about 15 years! And some of the hair never grew back 'cos of scar tissue.
So the dreads were skinny and far apart on the top, and it looked so sad. :( I decided to undo them before it was too late, and start over. I found a woman who is amazing at sectioning and backcombing hair, she used to put synth dreads in my hair. And she will section the hair on top cleverly in such a way that it all looks fuller; criss crossing here and there. So now I have to save up.... eeek 180 quid, but it may just be the only way I can get away with dreads.
I'm sad that I couldn't do it myself, as that would have made me feel a real sense of achievement, but Im not clever at sectioning the way this woman is.... she is very skilled. Oh by the way, she never uses wax or any other crap! and she is caucasian same as me, with lovely dreads.
If anyone has any comment or suggestions before I have this done, I'd be happy to hear from you. :) thanks

    Hey there lovley people,
I'm just entering my little dready journey! Feelin' very completed and new...and somewhat like a tree visually[IMG] . I've made so many locks on other people, but wasn't ready for mine yet .Then this rasta man was talking about the locks having to be in a persons soul to be on their head, and it inspired the time to come.

    Peace&Love

here's some pics my my baby dreadys

Hi lovelies! I'm Lu. I've been lurking around here for a while, now (not in a creepy way, I promise!), but other than that, I'm pretty new to these forums. This is my first post in the dreadlock section.. So come on over, say hi, make me feel welcome, wont you? =D

Anyway.. I'm 21, live in the St.Louis area, and I've had my little dreadlings for 3 months, now. I admit, I started them with the backcombing technique, and they get palm-rolled everyday. But I'm proud to say I've never used wax. The only thing that goes into these little dreadmuffins are J&J Baby shampoo. On with the pictures: #1, #2, and #3 were taken a couple of days ago; that's what they're looking like now. Picture #4 was taken about 3-4 weeks after I initially started dreading.. You can see they've come a long way just in a couple of short months. Feedback / constructive critisizm is always welcome, so Bring it on! (Oh, and I'm really loving everyone's dreadies.. Each and every head looks different. It's such a beautiful, personal thing.)

Ok, ok.. On with the pictures. For real, this time.
