im starting a deep water culture hydro set up (got it built just need water and looking for a hps light) but I don’t know what water would work best and be easy to get. I live out in the country about 10min. from any store so I don’t really want to have to get my water in town. and last I looked, those reverse osmosis things (think that’s what they are called) costs to much for me right now. so my first question is could my well water work? strait from well b4 it gets to my water softener of corse. I live in the mid US. where the ground if very fertile for the farmers, but im not sure what contaminants would be found down in my well. also if I built a big filter of some sort for my well water would that get it close to the pure water I need for hydro? I have only grown 3 times, and they where just soil grown with florescent lights. (just to get a feel for growing) and I was amazed how well I did for my first time growing. I used my well water for these grows and had no problems. but from my research hydro can be very touchy. so if anyone has tried this or may know a way I can plz. help. thanks
Like you said - take your well water out before the water softener, that should work just fine! Without chlorine the only thing you need to worry about is the ph balance. Get a cheap ph tester and adjust the water to neutral, if needed.
Ok thanks, I tested the ph once and if i remember right it was a bit high but ok to deal with. i also used a TDS meter on it and it was way high so it may be a bit tricky to get the nutrent levels where they need to be, but i'll give it a try. I cant remember the PH and PPM levels off hand for it was over a year ago, and my ph meter has broke and i have no idea where my TDS meter ran off to but i started some seeds today so hopefully it will all work out..
