I really miss the stage of the dreading process when my hair was really messy and all over the place...almost where it looked like you spent the whole day at the beach with the wind blowing through your hair... I know some of the new dreadies hate this process but it's something that I really miss seeing in the mirror...and something I haven't seen in a long time... What was your favorite stage of the dreading process for you so far?
a few days into it i can say it cuts my "get ready" time down by like 3/4 haha i'm sure i'll come up with more as the months go by
I let my hair go and let my dreads begin to establish themselves in Babylon, spent a couple/few months doing that, where I could check progress in the mirror and make sure I didn't hate the look. (My hair is way curly, kinky, and frizzy so it wasn't long before they looked fairly established) After that I spent a great deal of time doing the hippie-in-the-woods thing, with friends, and went at least 6 months without looking at myself in a mirror once. During that time, I loved getting comments from people about how they were forming and establishing themselves. They were pretty short, so I couldn't even get a very good look at 'em even in front of my face.
I've had my locks for two and a half years now...and it seems like they aren't changing at all. Moral of the story is...enjoy the process, especially in the beginning because once you've had your dreads for years and years...you don't notice the changing all that much.
yes i agree, at 3 years now i can honestly say they virtually stop changing completely... occasionally ive notcied that they have grown but side from that they are unchanging. I really miss the fuzz but I«m going to shave them all off soonish, this year some time i feel.... i think its time for refresh.
It is strange for some people to say they dont like it. I'm enjoying and have enjoyed it very much! Its fun to kinda look like a caveman
really make sure you're ready to do it before you do! i just did that this past year and im currently 1 month in of trying to get them back! i didn't really regret anything when I did it, but it just sucks having to wait another 2 years til theyre back to what they were oh well i enjoy the process anyway
I agree with the cutting down on the getting ready time...just a few days into it here, too. I'm already getting teeny tiny loops in my dreads...one dread in particular is chock full of them. I think they're gorgeous! Haha...so in my vast experience, the messy loopy thing (at the same time, easy to put up and "tame") is my favorite stage.
