I don't know why we imagine British people are any more polite and considerate than anyone else, or whether it was ever true, but there's no difference between us and any other mass industrialised multicultural democracy so no reason to think we would be any nicer in general. Probably just one of those things we tell ourselves, we all have our national myths...
From what the media has been saying about the evil that is BB, we're not a very nice nation whatsoever.
Yep, and those views are probably quite representative of a large proportion of public opinion, not just now but going way back to the days of the Empire...
Not media inflated then ?. I just think jade was a bit ignorant and has a big gob. She also apologised and had no issue with other people of colour. You maybe right though. It has been a while since i bumped into a rascist.
I thought this opinion piece put the case quite well - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,1994723,00.html
assholes abound everywhere. so do nice people, i suppose, but i tend to see people acting like childish pricks most of the time.
Well, this seems like a nice, well-mannered cow. He seems to be taking all this snow with a lot of patience-a credit to the Empire! A model of British (Scottish, actually) politeness!
Evening ladies and gentlemen North of the border we are far more friendly. If im out a walk and pass somebody I say hello to them and about 70% of the time they say hello back or at least smile. If I were to say hello to a stranger in England they would look at me funny.
Depends where you are... I live about two miles from some open countryside, going from the built up town area to the country area there's a huge difference - say hello to a passerby in the town bit and they'll look at you like their mother just walked out of your nose. Half a mile away on a country lane, they'll often nod or say hi...
Yeah, since moving north of the border I find people are a lot less polite, they don't have the time of the day for anyone, always hectic and rushing, but move south and they're more friendly and open. More welcoming.
