Has anyone seen this show? Dweezil Zappa is on tour playing Frank's material. It's the closest you can get to live Frank Zappa. Apparently Steve Vai is a guest performer on it. I don't know if he's on the whole tour or just part of it. I bought a ticket for the show in St Louis here in a week. That will be fun, finish up my Philosophy final and then drive across the state for the show, and then halfway back to go home. It's gonna be amazing though, I know. If you've been, how was it?
I'm going on the 22nd. I'm excited. I got to see Frank back in the day. And I think Steve Vai is on the whole tour. Let me know how you like the show!
My friend went and he ended up fainting and going into this crazy thing. But my other friend saw it and he said it was good, except for at the end there is a massive shredfest. Kind of expected with Vai in the show, but i remember him saying it was on Peaches and that just ruined it, kinda like them takin a giant dump on the song.
Alright, I've been away from the forums since I saw this show, but now I'm back to school and fast internet. The show was fucking amazing, there was so much shit going on. Two percussionists plus a guest one (who was in like a sphere of drums and cymbals) two saxophones, etc. I think I counted ten people when everyone was all at once. I don't remember all the songs they played, but there was Montana, Slime From the TV Set, and Don't You Eat the Yellow Snow. It was a great show. Most of the time, the singer sounded damn like Frank. Then afterwards I bought some hash from a homeless guy. It's not the best, it's more like super compressed brick weed, but it gets me high and it's a cool story so fuck it. That's all I got right now.
I havent seen zappa, but i have seen steve vai twice live, and i own 2 concert dvds of his. he is amazing at the guitar. can make it do any sound he wants it to. crazy. sounds like a killer show guys. id b pumped 2 go! jay
i planned on going to see a show of zappa plays zappa, but for some reason i didn't go after all, i think because it was in the middle of the week and i was out of money
I found a torrent of the STL show, so I downloaded it. Been jammin to it off and on this week. It's good shit.
Forgot about this thread. The show just rocked. Having seen ole Frank back in the day (and from the third row - yes, I'm gloating), I think Dweezil and company did a marvelous job. The drummer you're speaking of is Terry Bozzio, who played with Frank. Dweezil did mention the mud shark song, being in Seattle and all. They didn't play it; though they did play "don't eat the yellow snow" for us! But, what made my day is that they played the song about the vegetables *forget the name* Rudabaaaga, Rudabaaaga, Rudabaaaga!
Lemme see if I can find the setlist for the STL show. I'm thinking it'll be roughly the same for the tour. Yeah, it was Terry. I couldn't understand him the whole time, so I never caught the name right. 01 - Intro 02 - Andy 03 - Call Any Vegetable 04 - Tell Me You Love Me 05 - Florentine Pogen 06 - Pygmy Twylyte 07 - The Idiot Bastard Son 08 - Cheepnis 09 - I'm the Slime 10 - A Pound for a Brown (on the Bus) 11 - Don't Eat the Yellow Snow 12 - St. Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast 13 - Father O'Blivion 14 - Inca Roads 15 - I'm So Cute 16 - Tryin' to Grow a Chin 17 - Punky's Whips 18 - The Black Page 1 19 - The Black Page 2 10 - Peaches en Regalia 21 - Montana 22 - Village of the Sun 23 - Echidna's Arf (of You) 24 - Zomby Woof 25 - Black Napkins 26 - Oh No 27 - Son of Orange County 28 - More Trouble Every Day 29 - Band Intros (A Token of My Extreme) 30 - Sofa 31 - Outro Musicians: Dweezil Zappa - Stereo Gibson, Fender Stratocaster and vocals Napoleon Murphy Brock - alto saxophone, flute and vocals Steve Vai - guitar Terry Bozzio - drums, vocals Pete Griffin - bass, vocals Jamie Kime - guitar, vocals Joe Travers - drums, vocals Aaron Arntz - keyboards, trumpet, vocals Sheila Gonzales - keyboards, sax, flute and vocals Billy Hulting - percussion and vocals
