Che Guevara was a totalitarian thug who served as Castro's right-hand man in Cuba. There's no way I would ever wear his image. However, I think it is a bit ironic that a commited communist is now the central figure of a capitalist marketing campaign. Poetic justice, perhaps?

I hope you be able to read more about Che's life and his relationship with Castro; what he wanted for the world, and what he thought about totalitarians. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Che_Guevara

And yes, is the central figure of some capitalist who doesn't even know who he was. Che was against them, don't forget it. The ironic is just what THEY are doing. And there is no way this can be some kind of justice. Is absolutely wrong.

Believe me. I'm sure that if you were living here, you just admire Che Guevara like a lot of people does. He was a freedom fighter. And actually the people who is against him ummm... better don't talk about it.

Anyway, you are from USA. I can understand.

I have to say, either way, that I'm not a "Che's fan", nono. I'm telling this stuff because I can see much of you guys maybe don't know what happened here and what he represent for latinamerican people.

    Would you prefer Batista?

Also, what do you think of the cuban policy from 1959 until Che left?

Che's image has become commodified and means nothing. For people who respect che, the best way to demonstrate that respect is to NOT wear a tshirt with his face on it.

Maybe if you learned who this man was and what exactly he did to earn the respect of billions of people world wide you would be proud to wear the shirt. Or did you think this thread was
about a fashion statement rather than a sense of decency?
Maybe everyone thought castro looked like a pigs butt compared to Che

I don't have one, but I'd wear one. I'm a socialist, and I respect Che as a symbol of resistance and I see no harm in that....

no, I dont really respect Che. I mean to one degree I respect anybody that acts upon their convictions, but to me he was a sad little man that didnt get enough power in Cuba, so he started his own war to prove something to somebody, and lots of people died over it. Doesnt that sound a little like somebody people all over the world are constantly badmouthing currently?

Right. And if you read that wikipedia article about him, you'll learn some interesting things about the guy that a lot of people are treating like a saint.

After the communists took over Cuba, Che set about overseeing a large political prison that the communists had stuck a lot of their opponents in, and executing a lot of them. He started the first concentration camp system in the country for the political opponents of the communists.

Che also told the news media when the Cuban Missile Crisis was over that if the missiles had been under Cuban control, he would have wiped out major American cities with them. What a nice guy. He really wanted to start World War III. Doesn't sound like much of a 'friend of the poor' to me.

What people need to realize is that communists, when they took over some countries, capitalized on the economic and political abuses of the regime that they overthrew, only to later become much worse than the government that they replaced.

People that idolize folks like Che Guevara really need to learn a little more about him. Che was Castro's right hand man for the first decade that the communists were in power in Cuba. If they want to idolize a Cuban communist, why not Castro? He's still alive.

Exactly DQ Veg, I see Che shirts all over the place but he was 2nd to Fidel. They were both large personalities and I wouldnt put one above the other. There should be as many Castro shirts as Che shirts if people are wearing them for their love and support of Socialism. Peoples perception of Che I believe are misguided, they only see the Bolivian freedom fighter (if they even know who it is on their shirt) but he was a calculated and ruthless man. Im a big fan of both Che and Castro.

The thing that bothers me about the shirts are peoples motives on wearing them. Are you wearing the shirt and living the life? Are you wearing the shirt so you can put out the vibe and not have to live the life? Are you wearing the shirt because you think its cool? So many possibilities, if you fight/work for the things Che was your doing enough.

this seems like such a mixed debate. some say they would wear it and wear it proudly, some say the wont. it really seems 50/50 to me. for the most part, ive never really seen many people with che shirts, or seen it as a fad to wear them, tho i do see them in stores alot (mostly hot topic which is a crime in and of itself).

but, i own one. ive had it for quite some time to, i stole it too so no one can complain that im buying into capitalisim either! im wearing it today acually for the first time in awhile (quite the coincendence hehe) but anyway, im a proud socialist and tho he did do some very very hateful things, and violence is never the answer, he did what he had to do, to some extent. and i wear the shirt as more of a pride thing, not, "hey that guy is wearing that really cool awesome retro shirt, man, i want that!!" if one person sees it and looks into learning about socialisim and socialist ideals i did my service for the day.

As much as I admire Che, no.

Because, along with the circled A of anarchy, Che's picture has gone from a symbol of socialism to some random pop thing.
