Just curious on everyone's thoughts on free will or concentrating ones will and such..

Here's some stuff I found interesting while reading 'demian' earlier...

"A moth confines its search to what has sense and value for it, on what it needs, what is indespensable to its life. And that's how a moth achieves the incredible-- it develops a magic sixth sense, which no other creature has. We have a wider scope, greater variety of choice, and wider interests than an animal. But we, too, are confined to to a relatively narrow compass which we cannot break out of. If I imagined that I wanted under all circumstances to get to the North Pole, to achieve it I would have to desire it strongly enough so that my whole being was ruled by it. Once that is the case, once you have tried something that you have been ordered to do from within yourself, then you'll be able to accomplish it, then you can harness your will to it like an obediant nag."

There was really too much to say about all that to make it as clear as I would have liked.. Oh well, let me know if you'd like to hear more. Or if anyone has read the book than they should know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I was just reading this earlier and found it to be very interesting and wanted to hear some thoughts.

wow yeah, that makes a lot of sense. i wrote something in a poem i dont really remember the exact line or feel like digging it up again but somethin along the lines of

    knowledge is required
    enlightenment must be desired

that makes a lot of sense to me looking back, enlightenment loox boring and unfulfilling to some people as say wasting an hour watching tv or going shopping, which really makes no sense at all if you stop and THINK about it.

but yeah dude you really have to WANT to break free of your normal wants and attatchments, a bit of a paradox, but it makes a lot of sense i think. i remember my old pot dealer was really my inspiration, i just saw a glimpse of his thought and the way he was and his philosophy on things, and how happy it made him, and it just made me really want to become like that. its a matter of inspiration i guess.

only the few who have the knowledge and desire to do so can do it. nobody ever said its gonna be easy, in fact it isn't easy for a reason. If enlightenment were as easy as learnign something new then everyone would be enlightened. Unlearning is harder than learning

    exactly

reprogramming yourself isnt always very easy, or desirable looking to all people. a lot of times those imprints are so deeply imprinted, people cant even imagine having it any other way. but anyone can, it lies within each and every one of us, its just a matter of turning the movie inside and looking inside ourselves for it.

    Exactly..

And don't you just love trying to have a similar conversation with one of those people who find tv more fulfilling than enlightenment? ha.. that seems to be the case way too often, unfortunately.

But I guess some people are just more comfortable living their lives in this manner, never opening new doors in their minds....

i think your right, its a matter of comfort, and never stepping outside that 'thought prison' they and their environment have created for themselves, because they fear, fear is at the root of a lot of it i think. it might be cold if they take off those warm comfortable blankets you know, your exposed, and naked, but thats the way its supposed to be, thats what real, bare, and true.

i try not to have conversations like that with those people anymore, cuz it really is pointless, like banging your head against a wall.

its as hard as you make it out to be man...

but yeah, i guess it is harder for some people more than others, because of the way theyve been brought up, and the way they responded to their environment and such, lots of really influential factors i think.

its so worth it though man, once you get past those obstacles, and thin the clouds of illusion one by one until you see the real sunlight.

Beautiful words from a beautiful boy.. :)

and brokenwingz, I agree.. it is really hard for some people to break through that cycle. Alot of people don't even realize that they are caught up in it at all..

your right, and thats a first part of getting out of that thought prison, is realizing that you ARE in one. sordove like in therapy, the first step to overcoming your problem is admitting you have a problem,

nah, i think what he's saying is if youre free and out on the road, enjoying your life with no limits, then youre not gonna be "safe"

but if youre all safe inside your room, with nothing to bother you or harm you, you have lost a freedom of experiencing the earth

oooh right. yeah once you open up your mind, and go naked, your kind of vulnerable and out there at first, its a little tricky intertwining it all together at first, some call it 'the dark night of the soul'
