So.. here are some pics from today.

One other thing. How long should I wait to wash after first having them backcombed? I know that they will itch and such... and my head is iching LIKE crazy.. but I am also seeing quite a bit of dandruff.... I plan on using dr. bronners... I haven't washed my hair in a week... What do you guys think?

I think they look great. Mine are about 3 weeks old at this point and I've been having issues with itchies and dandruff/dead skin(yuck!). I was using straight aloe vera, I used it like a gel and rubbed it into my scalp. I dunno, I think i made it worse on my scalp, but it made my dreads look a bit nicer and lock up a bit better. Yesterday I made a solution in a squirt bottle of water, vitamin E, lemon juice and sea salt & sprayed my scalp and hair with that. THAT seemed to cool my head off and stop the itching. Also wearing a hat or bandana or something and patting your head where it itches is better than digging in and scratching because that will cause your head to flake up more. I would also wash your hair soon because soon you hair will get greassy and slippery causing the dreadlings to start losing their knotability. Buy some Tea Tree dr. Bronners. It smells weird but the tea tree will soothe your head and help with acne and danduff. Wet your head enough for the soap, lather it up gently & leave it in for a 5 minutes(shower cap will help)... then rinse it out (nice thing about Dr. Bronners is it rinses clean and quick). Good luck on your journey.

with the solution you made, how much of each thing did you put in? Like the ratio to one another? Thanks for the tips. I originally wanted to wait at least 2 weeks to wash my hair... but I think I need to after one week... It is starting to get greasy.. I can tell. And my hair is really straight to begin with, so I am afraid that they knots are going to slip. I think I may wash it today.

i would wash. i've been washing every 3-4 days. i get rather itchy and flaky too and what i do is i grab my bottle of almond glow: http://www.evitamins.com/product.asp?pid=2465 (i use it as a lotion for face/body) step in the shower and i massage it into my scalp after i wet my hair. i try to leave it on as long as i can, then i just wash it out. i'm a blow dryer, so i then blow my hair dry and if i notice any flakes, i just massage my scalp rather roughly (i do this between washings to to try to get my natural oils moving), to help get the dry/dead skin off. i've not backcombed though so there's no need for me to be very gentle with my hair, so i'm not sure if this method would work well for you, but i thought i'd share anyway.

you're looking might cute there thv :)

I eye balled it all. I got a small spray bottle, filled almost to the top with water, added about a 1/2 a teaspoon of sea salt, a teaspoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of liquid Vitamin E. LOL, I have no clue if this is proper, but it worked ok for me. Really soothes my head when I get the urge to itch.

I love girls with dreads =) Every time I see one I like...act like a 10 year old girl seeing orlando bloom or something =p

As for washing, you're head will stop maknig as much oil after you...not wash it as much(but you probably kbow that)...I use viniger cut with water to wash mine about once a month...or if they get kind of gross(normally once a month) and that seems to do the trick.

as for itch, scratch it! (kidding, that will just feel good temporarily) as for itch, what i do is at the end of my (daily) shower, I put the water really cold and put my head under it so the cold water gets all over my scalp and stuff.....but if it gets on my body I jump =p

    Keep it dready!

ah. so i washed them today. My scalp feels a little better, but not much. I think I need to just make some sort of soothing mixture to spray or something on my scalp. they look a little bit better, but some of the knots are slipping... i really gotta work on them! Thanks for all of your tips everyone... keep them comin'!

    Paz y amor.

Yeah. I have super round tips and really tight locks for 5 months, and I wear a tam every day. I also wash my hair about twice a week. This is my second set, and for the first set I never used shampoo or soap, just straight water, for almost two years. They were healthy, I didn't have dandruff, but no matter what... I smelled really, really strongly of white people.

Oh, and rubber bands at the tips and roots might be something you'd want to consider, if you are really uptight about it getting loose or out of place.

But they're looking great for one week!
