hi, i got a lip ring on the left side of my lip about 2 months ago, and for about 2 weeks now iv had almost like a piece of flesh on the inside of my mouth under the stud which seems to be getting bigger, now im not sure if this is dead skin? but it doesnt seem like it as its quite thick. it is uncomfortable but its not very painful, my lip does seem a bit swollen tho. the outside of my lip is in no way red/itchy or sore. i was just wondering if this could be an infection? and if maybe i should remove the stud from my lip? or wat i should do. sorry if its very vague as its hard to explain. i could take a picture if you dont understand. thanks in advance

hey tom don't take the piercing out if you really like it, instead check in with your piercer if its not getting better.

it might be a keloid. usually develops when it's infected.
sometimes they go away by themselves, sometimes they don't
i suggest going back to the person who pierced it, and ask questions.

keloids are a type of scar tissue, genetics cause them.

what type of backing do you have on your piercing?
I'd also check with your piercer.

I get keloids bad on all of my piercings and that sounds to me like what it is. Might I suggest some tea tree oil and vitamin E! Rub on the outside of your lip (it will seep in trust me!) Ever piercing I get I end up with swollen red bumps that look like they could pop at any moment. Bet advice, don't fucking touch it! Since it's a lip ring make sure to brush your teeth after you eat! This keeps bacteria from growing around the piercing. One of the biggest issues I find with people who tend to get piercings is that they don't WANT to take care of them, but you are going to have to. Also, I agree with the ladies above me, go to your piercer. Also, if worst comes to worst get some antibiotics.

I am the Keloid Queen (Ick that sounds disgusting!!)

first off when you get a labret they should put a hoop in first thing...so you dont have this problem...
hoops are easier to clean and get crustys off and they wont dig into the back of your lip like the stud does...
when your lip is healed you can put the stud back in...although studs have a tendancy to rub on your gums and cause some bad toothy problems after time...just a few tid bits..hope they help...

Keliod was the first thing I thought of too.
Check back with the piercer if you felt they were professional. Maybe looser jewelry would help. I would highly recommend salt water to cleanse and heal, over anything. A pinch of sea salt (or not-iodised-table salt) in a small glass of warm water. Rinse and swish the area. Hope it heals soon!

It sounds to me just lkike the piercing is settling in; it's still very new. If it isn't itchy or sore, it isn't an infection.

Maybe you should just give it more TTLC than yu have been? Go back to salt water soaks for a few days, and if that doesn't improve matters, go back to your piercer for advice.

Just a note for anyone that does have an infection: DO NOT REMOVE THE JEWELLERY. This will seal the infection inside your body, and make it far harder to shift.

If you take proper care of a piercing there is no reason why it should become infected.

Sounds like it to me. Generally when you get a little bump, that's all it is and they are about 95% harmless. More of an eye sore and pain in the ass than a "problem". Just take the advice above. If it comes to it you may have to take it out.
And worst case scenerio you'll have to go to the doctor to get antibiotics to straighten it out. Even then it's possible you'll get to keep the piecing!
Don't touch it don't mess with it keep it clean! The keloid will go down in size and will tend to fluctuate. When the swelling goes down keep it super clean and you may get lucky and it won't come back. It's one of those things that you're just gonna have to battle head on. But it is possible it will go away. When my bellybutton got its keloid the first time I took it out. I also took out my nipple rings and tragus piercing because of keloids. Now I wish I would have just worked with them because after I repieced my naval it got a keloid and I fought with it until it healed, now I have no problems.
Just try and keep it in. Keep it clean but not over clean. It should (hopefully) straighten out. And if it isn't causing you any pain, it could stay there for ever and not be a problem!

    Hope that helps
