Okay I just saw the new movie and then the old tv show and thought it was great. I am going to get the book sometime this week to read it. Has anyone else read the book, seen the movie and/or the old BBC tv show? If so, what did you think of it? My favorite part was the singing dolphins, "So long and thanks for all the fish..." - so funny.
Read the book, seen the TV show, seen the movie, kind of procrastinating on listening to the radio show (I'm a busy man ) One thing you'll be glad to know is that Douglas Adams explains the entire towel thing in the book. I like the book the most because of the explanations of certain things that also happen in the movie, TV and radio series but aren't really explained.
seen tv show twice and read the book twice and then brought to book and put it on my book shelf. havent seen the movie. havent had the time. radio show maybe one day when im very bored and can get it its so great.
Only got round to seeing the film relatively recently. I didn't like it at first, as I felt a lot of scenes didn't match up to the book very well. Then I thought, stop being a purist bastard, and watched the film again and really quite enjoyed it for itself. It's not the book, true, but it's a great film in its own right, and Martin Freeman is quite good as Arthur Dent, if a little too cool. Some of the humour doesn't translate that well, but the narration certainly helps to make humour that was designed for the page work for a film. I hope they make the rest of the series....
I hear that after the film was released, Douglas Adams started turning in his grave so fast that the kinetic energy could power a large city.
Heh heh, i haven't seen the movie and i probably won't ever. I just don't see the point, especially when all the feedback i've heard has been mostly poor. The radio series is the best, but the books do add loads to it, and the TV show is awesome too.
The film was alright, wouldn't go out and buy it or anything. Was a little disappointed. I love the bit with the Whale though.
There were several incarnations of the stories, a couple for radio, another for the TV series and then yet another (with a more romatic side) for cinema. I love them all. The cinema version is the worst really, too condensed, but I still love it! The books are more complete though, they always are.
I love the book to pieces! I love the TV show... Zaphod's head is amazing!!! Haahaa!! The film has its moments... I think I may have to watch it again!
Zaphod was by far the best character! Suriving the Total Perspective Vortex by being the most important person in the universe: "Didn't I tell you baby? I'm Zaphod Beeblebrox!" Maybe he just reminds me of myself. The fourth and fifth books just aren't the same without him in it....
This is DEFINITELY a must read. The movie was alright. I've watched about half a dozen times now, and own it. It definitely lacked the depth of the book, but most movies do. I honestly didn't like the Zaphod design with his second head being in his neck, maybe because I was so used to the second head being up on his shoulder from the TV series. If you are only coming to Hitchhiker's Guide cause of the movie ... run, don't walk to your nearest online book retailer, and get all 5 books with the story, and read em all. They are profound. RIP ... Douglas
He doesn't though, or does he? It's been years since I read the book, but the reason he's told to go through the window and not the door is because it puts him into some virtual reality type world, where the TPV is simulated and programmed to recognise Zaphod as the most important person in the universe for his own survival. Damnit, my friend lent the book off me and still hasn't given it back
