© APJimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix Energy Drink in Works Jan 24, 10:44 AM EST The Associated Press CALABASAS, Calif. -- A new energy drink doesn't promise to give you the juice to play guitar like Jimi Hendrix, but it does hope to give you a "Liquid Experience." Beverage Concepts says its nonalcoholic "Liquid Experience" drinks, named for Hendrix's breakthrough album, "Are You Experienced?" will debut in April. The concept is irking some Hendrix fans, many of whom still consider him the greatest guitarist of all time. "To see his image and the beautiful feelings it has created during my lifetime cheapened by base advertising ... is very disappointing to me," said bassist Michael Balzary, better known as Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The image of Hendrix, who died in 1970 from a drug overdose in London, has been licensed for products including baby clothing, an air freshener, lava lamp and a Christmas ornament. Portions of royalties have gone to several educational causes, including the United Negro College Fund, said Bruce Kuhlman, director of licensing and brand development for Authentic Hendrix, the Seattle-based company that controls use of Hendrix's name and images. Beverage Concepts Chief Executive Josh Glass said his company would honor Hendrix's memory by donating some of the profit from the Liquid Experience to an unidentified music education foundation What the hell is the matter with these people...

Do you really think it's that big of a deal? I bet you two years ago I would be freaking out, but It's not like this guy is Che Guavera or Ho Chi Minh or something, who fought against US imperialism and Capitalism, and then was used as a marketing campaign. Jimi is a musician, and part of that is being marketed. If he were still Alive, I would also find it quite "Sellout-ish" (if thats a word lol) but to me, why bother fighting this, I would love to see Jimi on a drink, I bet it tastes awesome, and hey, for all the hippies, doesn't this show that it's a sign of the times and how the 60s are coming back? At no other time in this century was there such a huge marketing and advertising campaign based off the hippie movement and the tye dye scene, and you can say what you will about that, but it shows what the public was into, and it's coming back, I see more messed up things going on in the world, this doesn't really bother me...maybe I'm wrong though.
Dont you think that Jimi would be pissed that people are marketing something that has nothing to do with his passion for music, just so they can make some money. I'm not like freakin out about this or anything, it just pissed me off to see one of my favorite musicians being advertised as an energy drink. Hell ill prolly buy one the day they come out, i just wanted to see what the other people on the forums thought about this...
they even marketed Jimi Hendrix brand red wine... and as we all know, jimi was drinking red wine the night he ODed... i think thats weird.
I have a Dead Red on my fridge, and an SKB Snowball brew (show-specific by a brewer into Steve Kimock Band). I have seen guys on too many energy drinks play some awesome tunes...
Yeah, and We will never understand the ways of corporate America and their ability to literally market anything, and it definitly is cheesy, but with everything else that's going on in the world, it's the least of my concerns, it actually makes me a little bit happy people still remember Jimi and Love him enough that he can still be marketed to today's youth. I think that says something about our generation, you don't see them doing that with any musicians today, because I think we can all say most of us atleast, don't connect to most of the music put out today by (e)M(p)TV.
Isn't it better than Brittany Spears on pepsi though? Wouldn't advertising a free-thinking drug-taking master-musician be more productive to raising the consciousness of our society? Yeah it's kind of dis-respectful as Jimi's Music is almost sacred and means a lot to many people...but I don't know, the more people who start listening to purple haze instead of hit me baby one more time the better...you know what I mean? From a marketing standpoint, it doesn't seem like a great move really. I mean how many people are really seriously into Jimi Hendrix these days??? As for me buying the drink...I think I will stick with my organic yerba mate empower-mint drinks, thanks
i think its a disgrace to jimi being that i look up to him so much.. i dont think he would of wanted this. its sad really..
