My father was a conscientious objector to World War 2, and he spent some time in prison, and also served part of his sentence working at a hospital. He did this because he didn't want to go to war.! During the Vietnam War, many people left the country, thinking they could never return, rather than fight in a war they didn't believe in. If there was a draft today, how many people reading this would have to leave the country, or go to prison, rather than participate in the war in Iraq.??
If there's a draft then it amounts to our government compelling unwilling citizens to participate in the great deceit and I would do my best to organize as violent a protest as I could muster. If I'm going to be imprisoned let it be for a real felony rather than refusing to abet one.
the military is at my school every week recruters ask me to join all the time. They have most of my graduating class signed up. They say great way to see the world and earn money for college. If the draft came Id pack me and my brother up.
if the draft same, i would pack me any my boyfriend/common law husband, and my brother up, and move far, far away......this war is just too mumbled, jumbled, and quagmired to be seen as a good cause. I mean, there are troops coming back, saying that they dont see any good coming from it. (my boyfriend's mom and dad said they would pay our way outta the country) Im starting to see a version of propoganda and yellow journalism throughout the media, but thank god i can see passed it
i think the military is a great way for poor people to get ahead and so if they instituted the draft, it would take away this oppurtunity for them to make career advancement
i really think its up to the person you are talking to...if it were me i would head to the north and take my friends with me. I am not letting them die so we can have the last laugh...
I would take all the money I had saved and head on the next greyhound bus to the rockies, camp out, try to avoid people and try to keep a good head. I'd rather be a fugitive than a killer.
I would rather pack up my things and head to some sort of forested area with some friends than fight. what are they going to achieve there? nothing. x
yeah, and you know who it is the military is targeting for this so-called "career advancement"??? the lower class. It would be a great move, if not for the current war. they just need bodies...they aren't about giving opportunity for college......their motives are a bit skewed, if you know what i mean. and i think its horrible that they are masking the enlistment to the military as an "opportunity" rather than for what it really is......a beef up in manpower It would indeed be an opportunity if it didnt meant you might get your ass blown off before you can recieve the funds for college or career, or whatever else they promise
Today the military as a career opportunity is like someone offering you a college scholarship to swim across a Florida swamp.
Ive actually been thinking about this for a while, and I don't know. The only thing that would keep me from going to Canada would be my two cousins, one fighting in Iraq now and the other finished a tour a year ago. From what he has seen there, this "war" is necissary for the well being of Iraqi civilians. Again, this is from where he was at and what he was doing....what he saw. The voice of objecting soldiers are amplified well over the voice of ones that think what they have done was the right thing. Afterall thats what you want to hear, isn't it? Id have to have a long talk with the both of them, and the rest of my family before I make that decision.
I think if and when a draft comes again, there will be mass resistance. A lot of people say they'd leave the country, but it won't be as easy as it once was to do so...and northern neighbors may not offer the same amnesty as before. Personally, I'll remain, burn my draft card, and join the resistance.
