Hey all About a year ago my ipod went missing. My friend who has stolen from me before has an ipod and I think he might have stolen mine. So I put on my detective's hat and went to work. Here are some facts: I bought mine in the fall of 03, he claims he bought his just a year ago. They are both 30gigs. The serial number on his is JQ33394PNLY. I punched that into apple.com and found the specs on the following page http://support.apple.com/specs/ipod/iPod_dock_connector_10_15_20_30_40_GB.html It doesn't say when this model was available in stores. Does anyone know? Because I think that knowledge could crack the case. I can't find an email address on apple's site and I don't want to deal with tech support. Can you think of any other things I can check out? Cheers
Damn, he just told me that although it was purchased last year it was refurbished. It resembles mine because they were both 03 models and had a lot of wear. So, all I have to go on is the serial number and model number. I wonder if I can track the sale of this ipod from these numbers? If not, I think I'm lost here
that sucks man, i would say your shit out of luck and if your friend did steal it karma will catch up with him. If you do find out that he stole it what good is that gonna do? If he steals is he really gonna give it back to you, i would say probably not. If you are dead set on figuring it out try calling apple and see what they can do. Well, simple questions your Ipod has a name. If he didn't change it, the Ipod name would be the same. You could try that. Or, you could steal it back, and find out for yourself if its yours, and if it isn't give it back without him knowing
case cracked! he DID steal it. All refrubished models have their serial numbers changed so that the first digit is a 2, while this one is a J, so it's obviously not a refurb. That, and I called the store that he said he bought it at and they say they have never sold refurbished models. And they also told me that the model my friend has was purchased over three years ago from the store at my university, where i bought mine. BOO YEA
Have you confronted your friend? I'd call the police and tell them this isn't the first time It's happened.
