How risky do you think it is trying to grow a plant in a dorm room, provided there are no roommates and you take care to hide it well?

I guess i know the risks, what im really looking for is anyone with experience or who knows someone who has tried this.

extremely risky, especially if the pot's any good.

you not only have the issues of space to hide it, light leakage, and ventilation, but probably the biggest concern (from what i understand) would be the smell.

you know how sometimes a friend might come over with an eighth or so of some good, fresh pot....wrapped in a bag.....and put in their pocket....and standing near them you can STILL smell it?

imagine a big cannabis plant growing in open air (you can't exactly wrap it in plastic)

the smell has to go somewhere....you might as well be smoking blunts in your room.

i know firsthand from being near other people's grows that you CAN smell it, and a dorm room wouldnt give you anywhere near a good environment to grow in.

apartments are risky enough as the landlords can come in basically whenever they want; its their property.

in a dorm you have even less right to keep others out, except for other regular students. further you have almost no chance of hiding it properly should someone come in to check on your room after someone reports a strong smell of marijuana.

bad idea. wait until you have a house or find a patch of land away from anybody to grow on, and visit said patch only as often as needed.

I could read up on it but for lazziness sake, do you know at what point the plant begins to smell? During the winter months for instance i could start the plant indoors then transfer it outside.

since vegetative growth and flowering are a linked to daylight, i think growing indoors in the winter and then transplanting in the spring would likely be a bad idea because it would already be an established organism when other cannabis plants in nature are just sprouting. it would have an inordinately long period of time before flowering...

i'm not a grower and don't know how this would effect the end results, but i would imagine it would be negative.

a relatively small plant CAN put off a relatively strong aroma, but of course the younger and smaller the plant the less it will smell like pot. i just dont think its worth the risk....i really want to grow, personally, but am pretty much committed to waiting until i have my own house so i can prevent as many problems as possible.

i dont grow, but i have seen a number of live plants. some smell when pretty small, some dont smell much. from what i understand, it often depends largely on the strain you're growing (some are less smelly when growing than others, some are downright PUNGENT!)

The plants start smelling strong during the flowering cycles.

No dice bro, you are completely backwards. The longer the plant grows in veg the bigger the plants grow, the biiger the plants, the bigger the amounts of buds. It also provides a plant a healthy envirement to start its growth, where it is most vulnerable to harsh conditions outside. When a plant has already been growing a month or so, they have a much better chance of living through that trauma.

The only thing to worry about is making sure the indoor envirement isn't completely diffrent from the new outdoor envirement, because that could also cause trauma to the plant.

No they cannot. if you or someone who you know has been in a situation like the one you described go get an attorney and sue the fuck out of the landlord.
Landlords always have to get your permission to enter the property, it doesn't matter that on some level they "own" it, because you are now renting it. It's like if you lease a car through a dealership, they cannot enter the car any time they please without your permission, even though they "own" it you still are the one who controls it, which is vastly more important in legal terms.

well its not like they can come in and snoop around. but they CAN enter for general maintenance purposes, though i believe they need to inform you of this at least 24 hours in advance.

suppose you've got a fully automated but small scale hydro system set up in an apartment and feel you can leave somewhere for a long weekend. get a notice on your door friday that they will come in on saturday to...i dunno....change filters on your heater or a/c or whatever it is they do...they come in, find your shit, and you never knew cause you aren't back till monday.

i've not lived in an apartment where it was at all different then this. of course they wont come in without reason to cover their asses, but i've never been asked permission, but been informed. in general you're safe, but you know what they say about assumptions. they are ABLE to enter your abode whethere legally or not, and if you're evicted for growing pot in your apartment you'll have a bitch of a time getting far in court for them unrightfully entering your apartment.
