Whenever I play a game or leave my laptop for a certain amount of time, it'll just turn off. The time isn't concrete but usually ranges anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. It first started happening a few months ago, and since my comp isn't very technologically advanced, and I only play about two games on it I just stopped playing games. Anyway, I've really been wanting to paly Sim City 4 again, and I have been, making sure to minimize the game every ten minutes though. Anyway, it's pretty annoying and I wanted to know if any of you had any advice. Thanks. BTW, my laptop is used like a desktop, it's always plugged in and such.
I would try setting my video settings to the lowest resolution you can stand and still look good. That helps on battery strength. Laptops are notorious for the battery retaining a memory. (Thats a BAD thing.) Also, make SURE you have good ventilation under the machine. Heat kills batteries too. Let us know.
Might also be the 'Power' settings. (The electric plug on the control panel.) You might be set to turn everything off after so long...
info that might help: -what kind of laptop -specs: processor, memory, operating system, etc -what other problems occure before/after shutoff when you say the laptop shuts off, do you mean that the screen goes black? do you have to boot it back up completely, like it was unplugged from the wall and battery? does the laptop enter standby? exactly what does the computer display when it shuts off? exactly what does the computer display when you turn it back on? it would help if you could answer these questions. sorry to be so specific. thnx.
maybe you should try hovering the hoover over the fan, because dust sometimes blocks it, and overheats causing the computer/laptop to shut down! hope that helps!
Make and model of laptop - operating system does it do this just on batteries or when plugged in? If I were you I would check the bios and start from there - you may get some info on what temperatures its ruunning at and may be able to turn off powersaving altogether my best bet is that something has altered the powersave and/or hibernate settings, If after trying all the advice you get here - may is uggest that you shoot it or take a hammer to it - but video yyourself doing that and post it here
try looking at your powersaving options, which should be on the control panel depending on what operating system you are running, maybe even try re-installing the operating system if you have the restore disk
