I read in my mas Peoples magazine the other day that this family had their 6 year old daughters ovaries and breast buds removed so she will always be 6 years old. She has some disease where she cant talk or move and her parents say its convinent for them, yes them, as she grows older because they wont have to deal with her periods and it will be easier to travel with her or some shit like that. it really pisses me off and so far everyone ive talked agrees with the parents and im like WTF? I mean i realize having a kid is a strain at times and having a kid with such severe disabilities as hers has to be so much harder but shes still a human being. this seriously pisses me off because not only in the past have they sterilized severely retarded people, but also Indians, blacks, deaf and mentally ill people. this shit was still happening at the beginning of the 20th century and people are starting it all over again in the 21st. I mean to actually say in the article that it's more conveinent for them is basically saying yeah weve surgically abused our kid. i havent been in those peoples shoes and wouldnt ever wish anything like that on my worst enemy. the parents made the decision to have a child and shouldnt be able to mold that child, because she is disabled and can't freaking talk for herself, into what they want. ack im really really mad.
I don't believe it ever stopped. That's like saying dubya doesn't drink, he never feels like clearing brush, and his marraige isn't on the line. You're born with what you're born with... but at the same time, if you get pneumonia, do you not take anything for it?
http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213498 already discussed on the forum. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16473471/?GT1=8921 for the article referenced The girl in question stopped developing mentally when she was a few months old. She can't even sit up or hold a toy. This surgery was done primarily to keep her small so that caring for her would be more manageable, easier to prevent bed sores, etc. I think that unless you've been in their place, had a child who was that mentally disabled, you really have no right to judge them. It is a -hard- fucking situation to be in and having the whole world judge them for trying to make their lives incrementally more manageable really isn't fair.
i read this article in time magazine last week. I thought it was really disturbing, but i do see where the parents are coming from. It is so sad though. I dont think theyre horrible people, and i think they had some good intentions, but i personally probably wouldnt have done what they did.
Yeah... same way I feel with abortion, yet not. If a man isn't going to give birth to a baby (that'd be a sight), then he can decide when he does have a baby... yet would that truly still entitle her child support, if needed. It's very much like pi, you know.
Theres a huge difference between being treated for pneumonia and having your ovaries and breast buds removed. Thats Frankenstein shit. So because she stopped developing mentally and is unable to move on her own or say hey I don't want that, means it's ok? Hitler did creepy shit like that with disabled Jewish children and adults all in the name of convinence, because hey they were disabled, they didn't offer anything to society. Why don't we start doing things like this with children that don't fit the mold of "normal". We can start with the ones that can't speak up for themselves and then we'll end with kids that have ADD. Shit, we should start removing the sex glands from children that are "normal" just to stop teenage pregnancy. I never said it wouldn't be a hard place to be in, I just said it's wrong. The whole world wouldn't be judging them if they didn't decide it's ok to remove body parts from a person that cannot defend herself. I think if you do something like that and THEN give interviews about it and about how how it's for your own freaking convinence, then yeah you're asking for people to say stuff. I mean come on, seriously. How do you even come up with an idea like that? Why even take the chance of bringing a life into this world, just so you can radically change it's life because the child doesn't fit into your lifestyle.
