My Bischon mix scratches and bites and it is driving both of us crazy! We went to the vet and $300 later I have some shampoo that does, guess what, absolutely nothing! Cash is taped out, anyone have any ideas. Poor thing. No fleas either, it's allergies! Thanks
Allergies?? Hmm... take a look at what you leave lying around your house. Notice what chemicals you use (soap, 409, etc.) to clean up with. Maybe there's some kind of residue that doesn't agree with your dog, or maybe it could be something tracked in from outside.
Feed and water your pups out of stainless steel bowls. It could be the food your feeding. Have you tried a sensitive skin formula dog food?
I remember this happened to me once. Our one dog started getting a really bad rash type of thing and was itching constantly. He even lost a tun of fur. When we brought him to the vet, they gave us a bunch of pills for him. Well, time goes on and nothing happens, the other dogs started itching too and after going to the vet yet again they found nothing. Finally, I went to a different vet to find out my dogs had SCABIES! They must have run off into the woods and probably found some dead animal that was carying it but it can be transfered a number of ways. I'm just glad I didn't catch it. Perhaps your dog has really dry skin? Don't bathe dogs too often. Check for fleas on other pests such as bot eggs. Have you changed his diet recently? Use anything differently? Perhaps your cleaning supplies have changed or something to the effect and it's bugging him.
Most commonly it allergies stem from food sensitivities... related to corn or wheat gluten (primary ingredient in dog food) I'm surprised you ended up with shampoo when you should have been advised on switching your dog onto a low allergen diet. Lam and Rice. Stick with that for 1-2 months and add omega fatty acids (cold water fish oil caps) 3 caps 3 times a day.... you can make your own doggy food... rice, egg, nutritional yeast... chicken w/o bones.. look it up on the net or look up Holistic Health care for your pet. Shampoo is a band-aid solution.. especially if it's systemic & and your vet. didn't do a skin scrape to test for scabies (demodex) and then didn't treat systemically for parasites... good luck, I have a Border Collie that's sensitive to Pedigree dog food ( she lives with my Mother in the country, and I can't get her to switch to a better dog food like Avo-derm or Pinnacle) and so I have her give the cold water fish oil caps and that helps a whole lot...
Totally agree, 99% of the time its the food. Try eliminating all comercial pet food to prove it. Feed a diet of fresh chicken and beef, either raw or cooked, along with fresh vegetables and all fruits exept citris. I have been through this many times. If u really are concerned look into the raw diet its the most natural holistic way to feed your dog.
