- "for what its worth" Buffalo Springfield -"get together" The Youngbloods -"something in the air" - Thunderclap Newman -"time of the season"-The Zombies -"wont you try/saturday afternoon"-Jefferson Airplane(acid, incense, and baloons) but my #1 pick: "wild tyme" -Jefferson Airplane "Its a wild tyme people all around me changing faces its a wild tyme Im doing things that haven't got a name yet!" what song would you pick? Think of some other possibilties........
"wild thing" was determined to be the signature song of a generation so therre really isn't much point to continuing this thread
Wow, those are all the songs I just loved as a teen in the 60's and 70's. I don't think I could add to that list. They were all so much songs of the times. I don't listen to old music much, but I always like to hear those songs.
^^nice choices, sister!! ABE...that's so strange....I dont listen to new music much! Just about everything i listen to is considered "old"....i like to think "timeless"
My vote would be, Bob Dylans' The times are a chang-in . http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/times.html Said alot about the attitude then. ...................................Alaskan............................
Yeah, I'd vote for it too. But I don't think any one song says it all. I'd add to the list, "We Shall Overcome": We shall overcome, we shall overcome, We shall overcome some day Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe we shall overcome some day We shall all be free, we shall all be free, We shall all be free some day Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe we shall overcome some day We shall live in peace, we shall live in peace, We shall live in peace some day Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe we shall overcome some day Also "Signs" : And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why He said you look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do So I took off my hat I said imagine that, huh, me working for you, woah! Sign Sign everywhere a sign Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign Peace, poor_old_dad
One song cannot represent a whole decade. Right on, poor old dad. How about "eve of destruction" by Barry McGuire. A battle cry against the Viet Nam conflict. Or CCR "Unforunate Son". And the list goes on..... * decaying-existence..Mama's and the Papa's were top 40- bubblegum music, sorry!! I found out a little known album of John Sebastian, "The four of us" will be released tommorow on CD. I've been looking for it for 20 years. For you younger folks, its a musical journey across america of two hippie couples in the 60's and the people they meet. It's good time, happy music, check it out..... .............................Alaskan...............................

What about Melanie - Beautiful people? Or does it maybe fits better in this time? Some of the lyrics: Beautiful people You ride the same subway As I do ev'ry morning That's got to tell you something We've got so much in common I go the same direction that you do So if you take care of me Maybe I'll take care of you Beautiful people You look like friends of mine And it's about time That someone said it here and now I make a vow that some time, somehow I'll have a meeting Invite ev'ryone you know I'll pass out buttons to The ones who come to show Beautiful people Never have to be alone 'Cause there'll always be someone With the same button on as you Include him in ev'rything you do He may be sitting right next to you He may be beautiful people too And if you take care of him Maybe I'll take care of you And if you take care of him Maybe I'll take care of you...
