I've decided to sit down beside you all. This particular thread is made of fine silk, strong and smooth with an iron grip but it can be gentle as a midsummer night's breeze. I want to play and sing and dance amongst my brethren. Will you all participate and make a date before too late? I live and breathe on Long Island with LJ the dog and bj, the sometimes poet-a man of many words learning to economise, whose easily amused, he'll be 49 in April, that's almost dead in human...right? I am 8eyedspy, a spider, a friend, a fiend, a many times mated arachnid with millions of spiderlings populating the planet. Another batch about to hatch and the current missus is drowning herself in cider. My mother was a widow and father a recluse, I have an affinity for all living things, especially the juicy ones. Mind the web it isn't quite dry yet, but please do sit a spell and come weave a tale or two. 8I ps. What do lawyers and spiders have in common...we both suck.
Thanks GH, I see you work with your hands, my brother is a baker and his hands are a wreck. Do you use any creams or lotions to heal the skin when it gets ravaged? I got him some over the counter stuff but was just wondering if there's anything besides aloe you would recommend? The intense heat and water is what's eroding him away, otherwise for finishing products and working the bench he wears those wispy plastic gloves. BTW Stonehenge, and the Easter Island heads...do you work on that type of scale?
Hey there ! Yeah, there is this stuff I use that has had some good results. Don't laugh...it's called "crack cream". Okay...laugh cause it's damn funny, bahahah ! But it works ! I have tried many things that didn't work....MANY ! the problem with most is the fragrance ingredients. They have the tendancy to irritate already irritated skin. But back to the crack cream....I don't have the tube here at work, but I'm pretty sure it is made by Johnson and Johnson. As for the stone work.....I haven't carved anything as big as the Easter Island carvings, but, I have been working on an 1800 lb. piece of slate type material. I have been carving on this in between other projects for the past four years. It is a carving of Native origins pertaining to a very large turtle (the earth) and the early creation story of my Native American ancestors. I figure I will be working on it for another four years at least. I do alot of very fine carving and small items....and this has proven to be a sort of hinderance with the larger carving because I find myself getting way too detailed for such a large stone. But I can't stop the detail now. It was nice hearing from you ! PM me anytime or watch for my posts around the forums. I spend most of my time in the personal forums at "The Big Green Field". Peace and Love to you !
Thanks GH, heh, no I am not a carver unfortunately. I am a horticulturist by trade, 30 years service in every facet, grower, wholesaler, retailer both indoor and outdoor. Now I am trying out consultant's work, advising small garden centers and growers on best course of action, apparently experience is worth money. With winter here the gardening businesses are in semi hibernation, so I'll be helping out my bro whose bakery has just started to take off...his hands are a wreck. I'll get a hold of some of that crack cream, thanks again. Yes I will check out the big green field and such, nice meeting you. 8I
Hi cerridwen, Like the sweatered goats...they don't look sheepish at all. They remind me of upstate NY where the petting zoo let everyone feed the babies with bottles, cute. My 5 year old stepdaughter at the time was fearful of the miniature pot belly piglets, wish I had the pic of her holding the bottle at arms length ready to drop and run for the hills. Three years later we visited the Catskill Game farm again and she couldn't believe how she could have felt so scared over the little babies. heh. 8I
Hey 8I ! Horticulturist ? That is cool man ! I have a BA in Wildlife Biology and another in Dendrology. I love plants. Unfortunately, there are no jobs in my field around where I live. There are alot of reasons, but too many to go into. I had a job once at a place called Plummer Gardens. It was a wholesale distributor of fresh flowers and accesories. I loved that job !!!!! Working around the flowers all day long. My wife hated it though because when I would get home; she said I smelled like a funeral parlor ! ha ha ! We would have roses by the dozens and dozens that were perfectly fine, but too old to ship, and they would be put into a compost heap....or we were allowed to take them home. So, once a week, I would bring twelve dozen or so home and distribute them to the elderly women around my neighborhood. I think they really looked forward to it. I would bring so many flowers home that I think my wife just got tired of flowers ! Oh well. Hope to talk again soon ! Peace and Love !
