You can pick up some oldies commercials on Ebay. Whatever happened to that Fig Newton guy? He used to wear a giant fig costume and do that little song and dance while singing the Fig Newton tune. "Hit it Hal." He was on some other commercials such as the Bic banana pens dressed up like a big banana. :)

TVLand sometimes plays these really old commercials.

I think it's neat to see old commercials, where now the actors in them (who, at the time were 'nobodies') have made a name or career for themselves, that's pretty interesting.

Anybody ever seen the Hellman's Mayonaise commercial with the guy dressed like a glittery pickle? *shudders* The words "pickle surprise" still send a chill down my spine...

"Doing the BIG, FIG NEW-TON!!!" Sure I remember that, song and dance, guy in a big weird fig suit. Remember the Frito Bandito?? Or the original Hamburglar in those McDonald's ads, the one who scared the crap outta kids.

Yeah. You don't see too much of that anymore. The Bandito had overtones of stereotyping other nationalities. The Grimace was accused of poking fun at retarded people. I imagine there were some inmates that complained about the Hamburglar. And so on.

well, yeah, Frito bandito was racist as hell,in retrospect anyway. In fact a few years ago when there was a fuss about the taco bell dog (some people felt it was racist because it spoke in spanish about tacos:I thought that was a case of over-sensitivity personally) I started thinking about the ol' bandito. There were alot of stereotypical and negative portrayls in advertising back then, really.
