Hi. I'm a 56 year old hippie with a hair cut. Being a teenager in the late sixties and early seventies was the highlight of my life. It was the time of different value systems and a willingness to experiment with new ways of living based on values of peace and love. (that may sound trite now, but it shouldn't) I long to return to those days, but I am trapped in a self created senerio that I do not have the courage to undue. Symple
Welcome to the forums brother !...and welcome to that vaste conformist populous of the 21st century. I'm with ya man ! I too am just an old hippy with a haircut who is trying to fit into this world and is locked into that senario of conformity.....but there is hope. I think you have found that hope, and the key to hippydom....right here. I think this place is rather revolutionary and a place where the movements of the 60's and 70's live once again......and maybe even will be able to gain enough steam once again to overtake the yuppi culture and bring us back the world of the flower children ! Peace and Love bro !
Hi - I'm not exactly young either - had a haircut since the late 70's, as I didn't really think it suited me long anyway. Hippyness was never about haircuts really. Today, things have changed - I've learned to appreciate the fact that often, we put a better gloss on our memories of the old days than actually matches the facts. I have no desire at all to go back to the 60's or 70's. The balance of things has changed a lot since those days - many of the issues have become mainstream - things like the environment, personal freedom of expression etc. We have new things too, like the net, electronic music and hopefully, more experience and a more grounded sense of reality. Here on the forums, you may also find that inter-generational communication is possible in a way it never was a couple of decades ago. It's less 'us and them' and more 'us'. It's useless to try to go back - we can only hope to move on. Hope you enjoy your HF experience.
You have a wonder full inlook at life. My personal experience of the seventies is and isn't gloss. There were many more people who enbraced a non materialist life and expressed themselves by who they were rather than what they owned. People who genuiney valued peace among nations and each other. People who cared about the good of the many above the greed of themselves. These people were not only "hippies" but the vibe was begining to effect the mainstream. Yes there were many problems and things were far from ideal. But it was easier to find like minded folk then than it is now.
