Hello! Today thanks to algebra - I will find peace of mind and comfort. Part of my chores today is to cut up and stack the last of the firewood that I will need for the next 2 winters. When I am done that chore I will have 14 cords of firewood neatly stacked in 8 assorted size bins. Because firewood is my only heat source I couldn’t just presume it was 14 cords - I had to know for sure so I used algebra. Two of the bins had an angled roof so the math was as hard as the physical work. The next time I hear someone say, “what will I ever use algebra for” I will tell them for peace of mind and comfort. ( and I could show my work) Cheers!
That middle paragraph smacks of the word problems we've been doing. Algebra sucks...but you're right, it can be useful. especially the tax/finance portion.
Totally off topic, but knotdirty -- Mizzou rocks!!! Yay! Seeing that as your location made me smile I graduated undergrad there, I love that town!!! (For those of you not familiar with it, Mizzou is University of Missouri - Columbia)
i find algebra to be much more enjoyable in practical settings - looking at letters and numbers in a book never did it for me, but now i find myself using algebraic equations throughout my daily life without even thinking about it.....i think it could be more easily learned in the classroom if teachers could give some tangible examples/exercises
Yeah, well, University of Central Missouri found the largest prime number, I think twice. So take that! But yeah, Columbia is the shit.
Maybe the authorities and politicians could use algebra to figure out just how much money us tax payers lost during that Mooninite bomb scare in Boston. .
Nah, Ted Turner's got it covered. Just throw some cash their way. Although I think the two guys that actually put up the signs are being held criminally responsible. Bullshit if you ask me.
