Is it possible to mix other faiths with <Insert religion>with out conflicting each other? (christianity and such are a given) The reason I'm asking this is because my Philosophy teacher claimed that hinduism dosen't have anything that you *have* to do in order to reach their afterlife/enlightment... Is this true? I guess what i'm asking is does anyone know of a place I can find a list of <insert faith> exlusive things you have to do for any given faith? IE Christianity you have to belive in Jesus. Thanks, Poetic Romance.
((i'm just going to add that i study and practice krishna consciousness, which is a branch of hinduism, but isn't hinduism as a whole... in my opinion it's the highest form of hinduism, but there are people who don't feel that way... just so you know )) so, what your teacher said is completely not true . in hinduism, there are TONS of things you have to do to get certain results. that's one reason there are so many different gods; you worship them in different ways for different things. to get some property or money, to be strong, to advance to higher planets, for rain to come... all have different gods to worship. and ultimately, you can worship krishna/vishnu either for liberation from birth and death, or to eternally practice loving devotional service (bhakti), or both. if you want liberation, there are different ways to be liberated. you can merge into krishna's effulgence and become one with him, you can be his eternal servant or friend, you can live eternally with a form like his. the bhagavad gita says that the ultimate goal is not to desire liberation, but to desire only the opportunity to serve the supreme personality of godhead, birth after birth, in any form. that is the highest perfection and the highest happiness. and there are definately steps you have to take to get to that point. first, you have to realize you're not your body. you're a spirit, and you are eternal, and your only purpose is to love krishna. then, you have to renounce all material desires, cut yourself off from material entanglement, study the vedas, chant the maha mantra until you can do 16 rounds per day without fail, engage yourself in the activities of worship, purify yourself from past karma and prevent yourself from commiting any activity that will keep you trapped in the karmic cycle of birth and death. along the way, there are different positions you can take, different vows, different duties. there are definitely things you have to do, and things you can't do, if you want to make advancement. you have to change who you think you are, change your whole perception of the universe, and let go of your ego. as lord caitanya said, "one should be humbler than the grass and more tolerant than the tree". you can mix it with christianity, sure, depending on which kind of christianity you're talking about. some forms say that jesus christ is the one and only savior and if you don't do exactly as they say you're doomed to burn in hell forever, so, that's not really compatible with anything. but if you can see jesus, buddha, joseph smith, whoever, as an expansion of krishna, and see krishna as just another word for god, which is all encompassing, it can fit together perfectly. i hope i helped .
to say one thing if i may... ur rite its the def. of psychosis not christianity.... jesus is the one and only god who created the earth.. you ..and everything u see but to say if ur not perfect or do everything right is not it at all... christians aren't perfect we're just saved b/c jesus gave the highest price for our life... that's his life....
