As many as 41,500 healthy people who practice Falun Gong became involuntary victims of organ transplants and murdered between 2002 and 2005, according to a report that was presented before the U.S. Congress on September 29th.

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-California) chaired the first Congressional hearing on the allegations, and in particular, this report. He said that now it is important for this "to get the attention of the American people."

"It's important to get this on the record officially," said Rohrabacher. Referring to the David Kilgour's and David Matas' Report into Allegations of Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China (July 6, 2006), he said it has already generated much worldwide media attention.

Rohrabacher explained that the human rights violations get short shrift by American businessmen due to the lucrative trade with China. But they don't see, he says, that their huge profits are being made from "an evil system of injustice that is keeping the people of China under control and oppressed."

Rohrabacher is Chairman of the Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigations, which is under the Committee of International Relations.

Missing at the hearing was a representative from the U.S. Department of State (DOS). At least, no one "officially" was from the DOS, noted the Congressman, leaving open the possibility that an observer from the DOS was present in the hearing room. Congressman Rohrabacher expressed his disappointment at the DOS absence, and turned to an aide to confirm that an invitation had been extended to the DOS.

Highlights of the evidence for the alleged crimes were discussed by four witnesses, including David Kilgour and David Matas—authors of the report.

The report described China's harsh, even genocidal, policies towards Falun Gong. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Manfred Novak, found that nearly two-thirds (66%) of victims of torture and ill-treatment in Chinese prisons are people who practice Falun Gong, said Kirk C. Allison, Ph.D.

Dr. Allison is Director, Program of Human Rights and Health at the School of Public Health, Medical School, University of Minnesota. Dr. Allison said he was speaking for himself, and not for his affiliated institution.

"The systematic program of ideological eradication of Falun Gong coincided with an inexplicable increase in whole organ transplantation, and international organ transplant tourism to China," testified Dr. Allison. Between 2000 and 2005 the source of organs within China is hard to prove. Elsewhere, in a special article for the Epoch Times, Dr. Allison had looked into the source of the increase of transplant operations in China.

"Family donors or nonfamily brain-dead donors account for less than 1% of donation in China. A national voluntary donor program is undeveloped. Kidney transplants nearly tripled in the same period. Liver transplants increased nationwide from about 135 in 1998 to over 4000 in 2005. Various advertised ranged widely from about $24,000 (200,000 yuan) for Chinese to $98,000 or more U.S. dollars for foreigners," said Dr. Allison.

That would seem to leave only executed prisoners and Falun Gong detainees for this highly profitable business. China only acknowledges the executed prisoners—death row inmates—as a "minor" source for organs. But it must be large enough to require the active support and coordination of the state, notes Allison. The China International Transplant Center proudly and openly states on its website, according to Dr. Allison, who quotes from it, that the many transplantation operations are "owing to the support of the Chinese government." The names of the courts, police, judiciary and health department, etc. are listed to show potential customers the regime's "unique" role in providing this "service."

Dr. Allison cited a BBC story appearing on Wednesday, September 27, which said that the sale of organs from executed prisoners appears "to be thriving," based on the work of an undercover investigation. At a hospital in Tianjin, the BBC correspondent posed as someone in need of a liver for his sick father. He was told he could obtain one in three weeks.

The hospital spokesperson said the organs from the executed prisoners were donated freely, but the BBC correspondent wrote, "…whether prisoners really are free to make up their own minds on organ donation just before they are executed is not at all clear."

The Kilgour-Matas report states that between 2001 and 2005, there were over 41,000 recorded transplants in China without identifiable sources. Rohrabacher's own summary of the report, notes, "It is impossible to attribute all of the organ transplants in China to executed prisoners, family members, and willing donors. The increase in organ transplants in China parallels the increase in persecution of Falun Gong."

David Kilgour, former Canadian Secretary of State for Asia-Pacific and co-author of the report, spoke of "China's most bloody harvest," for which there is mounting evidence that the victims were largely Falun Gong "prisoners of conscience."

"Most of the victims were convicted of nothing; they were murdered by medical professionals for their vital organs."

Kilgour said that he has a reliable source that nearly 85% of the organs transplanted in the Tianjin hospitals are going to non-residents of China.

"Many such patients probably hope they are getting an organ from a convicted murderer or rapist…but they should know that China has 68 offences for which one can be executed, including tax fraud. In reality, it is probable that the organ is coming from a young Falun Gong prisoner, whose crime was to believe in 'truth, compassion and forbearance'."

David Matas, International Human Rights Attorney and co-author of the report, noted in his testimony that the response from China only reinforces their belief that the Communist regime is guilty. "Despite all their resources and inside knowledge, they have not provided any information to counter the report. Instead, they have attacked us personally, and, more worrisome, attacked the Falun Gong with the very sort of verbal abuse which we have identified as one of the reasons we believe these atrocities are occurring."

David Kilgour related a chilling story in his testimony. This summer a world transplant conference was held in Boston. A medical doctor from Germany and his wife were chatting with a surgeon from Tianjin, China, who told them that in his hospital—one of three in Tianjin that does transplantation—there were 2,000 live transplants in the past year. (In Germany, all hospitals combined do a total of only about 700 per annum, according to the German doctor.) Quoting from Kilgour's testimony: "At the end of the friendly conversation, asked who the organ donors are, the surgeon replied to the couple: 'Ask the [Falun Gong] demonstrators outside the hotel'."

How much more do we(the government) have to do before the world deems us just as evil? Oops, we have already crossed that line...

Government have no morality, it is only a reflection of the will of it's people. Evil governments will continue to commit evil acts as long as their people will allow.

China admits taking executed prisoners' organs

Demand is high, and supply is low -- except on death row; the nation leads worldwide in capital punishment.

BEIJING — After years of denial, China has acknowledged that most of the human organs used in transplants here are taken from executed prisoners and that many of the recipients are foreigners who pay hefty sums to avoid a long wait.

Speaking at a conference of surgeons in the southern city of Guangzhou, Deputy Health Minister Huang Jiefu called for a strict code of conduct and better record-keeping to stem China's thriving illegal organ trade, state media reported.

"Apart from a small portion of traffic victims, most of the organs from cadavers are from executed prisoners," Huang said Tuesday, according to a report Thursday in the English-language China Daily newspaper.

"The current big shortfall of organ donations can't meet demand," Huang said.

The acknowledgment of what had been an open secret online, in local magazines and among people awaiting transplants came about two weeks after China announced it would tighten oversight of capital cases, requiring that death sentences be approved by the country's highest court. Legal experts estimate that will reduce executions by a third.

Though China doesn't disclose the number of annual executions, Amnesty International says at least 1,770 people were put to death in 2005, based on a review of Chinese media reports. Some activists say the annual figure could be as high as 10,000.

The lower estimate represents more than 80% of at least 2,148 that Amnesty International says took place worldwide last year. The United States executed 60 prisoners.

In July, China ruled that all sales of organs were illegal. But enforcing its decrees can be a problem, especially when substantial profits are involved.

In September 2004, local media reported that well-known comedian Fu Biao spent more than $36,000 for a liver from an executed prisoner in Shandong province. And starting in June 2005, reports surfaced on the Internet of retinas and kidneys taken from executed gang members without their consent in Henan province near Beijing.

Americans are among the foreigners who have headed to China for transplants as the waiting time for kidneys and livers has grown in the United States. U.S. transplant doctors say the majority seem to be patients of Chinese ancestry who feel comfortable navigating the medical system here.

One of them was Mabel Wu, 69, of Northridge, who received a kidney in July at the Hemodialysis and Organ Transplantation Center of the Taiping People's Hospital in Dongguan, a city in Guangdong province.

Dr. Gabriel Danovitch, Wu's kidney specialist at UCLA, did not endorse her decision.

"I have concerns and suspicions about who those donors are and what consent might have been involved," he said, adding that he also had concerns about the quality of medical care.

The family paid about $40,000 for the surgery. It was told only that the donor was a 30-year-old male.

Dr. Lily Wu, who is the patient's daughter and a UCLA cancer researcher, said the surgeon had told her he was concerned about the future organ supply because the government was becoming more restrictive about the death penalty.

As a result, she suspected the kidney came from a prisoner. "I didn't want to know," she said.

Her mother said four other patients had been at the hospital recovering from kidney transplants, all of them from Taiwan, when she was there.

She flew back to California 12 days after the surgery.

"I am very happy with this transplant," she said Friday. "I got a good kidney."

A Chinese transplant doctor, Dr. Zhonghua Chen, said at a conference in Boston in July that Chinese doctors had transplanted 8,102 kidneys, 3,741 livers and 80 hearts in 2005.

As long as the obscenely wealthy can obtain what they want and need, the welfare of the little man will be overlooked, unless oversight and accountability measures are well in place.

We stood by and let Tianamen square happen. And the US went forward with granting them Most Favored Nation status. We stood back and watched an Israeli bulldozer mow down Rachel. We did nothing and earlier this year we watched Iraeli bomb a democratic Arab nation into submission. We don't care about human civil rights anymore, we only care about the security of our "investments".

These people have shaped the state of our world right now. I for one am ashamed that it was allowed to happen.

Where are all those smiling neocons that lead us into this. They are all enjoying wealthy occupations in other spheres and still trying to manipulate our world for their greed.

If we don't ask for answers to important questions and halt their ambitions they will still be laughing while the rest of us are starving and struggling.

Not all of life's important questions are based solely on the theories you all learned in Econ 101. Some questions have to be based on the rights of individual human beings and not just on profit margin.

BBC news 24, today had an item about how we export all our plastic waste to china for recycling - and the people over there are unaware of the dangers of plastic contaminations - such as cyanic acid and other vapours
they have got factories where kids are playing while their parents work, amongst the filth and pollutant chemicals.
I suspect because they didnt want this story to air.
however we shouldnt be alarmed about this - after all its just another human rights abuse

The problem is that the USA sees itself as some kind of moral arbiter, but I dont know why that should be, so the events at Tianemen Sq seem only as reasonable as any event in the history of the USA ! After all the Chinese didnt invade the USA when its troops shot and killed people demonstrating during the 60's. I dont remember anyone getting that upset in China about the Death of Martin Luther King. Nor did Chinese people rant about the immorality of the USA and and its policies toward Black Americans throughout its savage history. So its more or less the pot calling the kettle black. Personally I think it would be a hoot to see on the internet chinese people condemning the USA and then having the states defend its appalling human rights record from Guantanamo bay all the way back to its sordid past - governments are all in it together - the new world order is a united decentralised cohesive government. They are all guilty if the USA didnt act over Tianemen square its because it knows - it had no right to act - its merely an untennable platitude to call China corrupt - all government is corrupt - and as long as the rich are in power it will exploit the weak

i bet you are not chinese from what you said has told me u are not . and what you said just tell me how shadow you are . as you mentioned that China is autarchic country , do you think as chinese , we could say ' no ' to our govt 's doing ?

and its not true that the govt's action reflected the will of its ppl. We all wish to changed , however , you should understand china with its huge number of population. sometime i could hardly understand why china govt giving us ( i am chinese ) such harsh way of controlling and almost no rights for anything , but in heart i wouldnt accept anyway to treating us for we are human being .

So before you making this comments , you 'd better ask some chinese does their govt reflect any of their will?
