Its all about Phish baby, my all time number one, main jive. Love 'em love 'em love 'em!!! But sine they are currently not a part of the touring world, I've been seeing a lot of Umphreys, and thas where I spent my New Years. Of course since I'm from GA I've been around a lotta Panic. They're def not my favorite. And of course, who could get away without givin props to Jerry and the boys? They started it all, although I respect them more than any other band and I enjoy a lot of their music, I've got a much stronger attacthment to Phish, but I have also seen Phish multiple times and grew up with them where as the Dead were before my time. But like I said, major respect for them.
Les Claypool these days is with out a doubt "JAM".....Primus even as converted into a "jam band"....there come back tours are so out there and jammy.....fuck, when i saw them on the last tour, they played the greatest, most out there "Blue Collared Tweekers"......Larry Lalonda put up the best guitar loop layering i've ever heard....amazing band.....and they can be very dark, which i like alot.....then there is Flying Frog Brigade, super jam heavy, kind of his, "here i am" to the jam scene. Col. Claypools Bucket of Bernie Brains was his new found love with improv based music.......and he's just been dancing inside it ever since....
moe is really taking me over lately and Stoney Curtis Band...I change my favorite daily though so who knows what it will be tomorrow. Stellar Road gets me and JOHN BUTLER TRIO!!!!
phish, disco biscuits, new monsoon, moe.,string cheese incident, widespread panic and younder mountain string band.they never come to belgium so i am satisfied with the live cd's
The term jam band refers to bands whose concerts heavily feature extended musical improvisation over rhythmic grooves and chord patterns.[1] Jam bands may exist within a variety of genres, including rock, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, funk, progressive bluegrass, blues, country music, folk music, world music, and jazz.[1] Psychedelic rock influenced many early jam bands during the 1960s and 1970s. Seminal groups include the Grateful Dead,[2] Cream, Frank Zappa,[3] and The Allman Brothers Band. So , I'd say that The dead and doors definetly qualify! Your so cute...hehe....
roughly (and this is from a music journo of low stature), "jam bands" are those who have at least launching points into improvisation in the footsteps of the Grateful Dead. The Dead pulled it from jazz improv. The recording, or taping, community also came from Jazz-buff audiophiles. Some of the most improv bands out there today are Jacob Fred Jazz Odessey and Dead Kenny G's, bith highly regarded by Les Claypool. (He loves Brian Haas) Jam band status can also be attributed to a group based on their crowd. Bela Fleck and his cast of bandmates attract jam heads, so from time to time you'll see them considered one. I would not, because in addition to similar sets, I have heard the same song played twice in one show. And it was a lame church hymn.
well for the past couple years its definately been Moe. and UM for me... lifetime favs... Phish and Dead of course... Big Wu.. but i dont think they've really been feeling it these past couple years... kinda goin down hill... Great American Taxi is another great jamband.. gotten to sit and smoke with Vince a couple times
phish is definitely my favorite band. seen them only post-hiatus, but i've seen my fair amount of shows. also have hundreds of concert recordings. i miss them very much, and hope trey can get his act together before even thinking about playing with phish again.
wow, what are you going to see after this summer when Cheese hangs it up? I'd be bereft at that point. This is why I have a zillion local no names to see. Always SOMEONE in town.
i know, it's a toal drag. well, i've tea leaf green. oh and as far as the cheese thing. i am touring HARDCORE this summer with string cheese before they "hang up the laundry". what a long strange wash cycle it's been. actually it's been pretty short, but immense. things should become immaculate. hmm, we'll see.
There are plenty of kick ass bands around, drumminmama is right, there always seems to be something going down.
