if i assume correctly, your refering to things such as NPR. I am totally, almost addicted to it, sometimes i just dont want to hear about whats going on in the world, not that i dont care, because i spend a good hour or 2 every day reading the headlines, i just like to relax and listen to the big lebowski soundtrack. They are totally the most progressive far out people on air. man.
that's good.here in italy there aren't any, if not just one programm into a very commercial network ,which is well basically hilaroius but at least you can say out loud whatever you want... once, back in the '70s there were free radio..you could just switch the line and feely talk on the fm frequencies..then they got shut down by authorities...
I think most mainstream talk radio -- Left and Right -- is reactionary garbage that does more to split people into camps than deliver anything resembling truth. Neither side gives you the truth. It's basically either Democrat or Republican propaganda. I don't cae for polemics, and I see beyond the whole Left/Right paradigm that most people subscribe to. In my opinion, the best talk radio is that which is on shortwave.
we've got some pretty good 'talkies' with call in option on kvmr. that deal with reall topics rather then polemics. things like what to do LOCALY when the oil runs out, or if it don't. all kinds of real things like that. yes there's a slightly left bias (and a slightly even greater bias toward reality rather then politicization) to balance the waaaay 'right' bias of corporate media. but all LOCAL voices ARE heard AND listened to. as in REAL journalism, NOT big media "infotainment". (not that there's always time to get everyone on in the at most two hours any given topic is delt with, nor are 'the talkies' what is on most of the time. mostly its ecclectic and nonmainstream genres of music. but there are several regularly scheduled discussion programs a week. hosted be LOCAL volunteer broadcasters.) in general i have to aggree with rat's perceptions though, especialy of just about anything i've ever heard that was/is nationaly sydicated. of course kvmr, and other alternative outlets like it, are anything but "mainstream". and just what the hell is "progressive" supposed to REALLY mean anyway? ("progressive mainstream" sounds like some kind of euphamistic smoke and mirrors shuck and jive to me) =^^= .../\...
I don't like progressive radio at all. I like Savage Nation, DR Laura...I found the Air America experiment dreadfully boring. I do not always agree with Savage or Laura, but believe it or not Dr Laura is a real staunch advocate of children's rights and Savage is a lone voice against oppression in America.
Yeah, as a libertarian myself, I totally identify. By and large, you're correct. While I'm not the biggest fan of someone like Alex Jones, he's probably one of the better hosts out there. My big problem with many of the hosts on shortwave is many if not most of them come from an exterme point of view regarding religion and politics-some are even racist to boot! BTW, here's the latest scoop on Air America (courtesy Inside Radio): Bankruptcy sale price for Air America - $4,250,000. Though Stephen L. Green also assumes liabilities worth several million, and of course shoulders the responsibility of paying for the ongoing operations - at a time when Air America's losing Al Franken. Court documents reveal that Green's offer was $1.25 million higher than anybody else's.
Find something that originates outside the U.S where they discuss meaningful issues. The media in the U.S. is so polarized it's hopeless. .
i agree all talk radio is supported by the left or the right. both shove there views down your throat. all they do is make you hate the other side. its sad because sometimes they do get it right, but im not gonna listen to whole show to find out. after listening to the left or right side i always walk away with hate, thats all there trying to do is push peoples buttons.
