I just heard someone refer to a lesbian as a "vagitarian." Clever, creative, kinda cool, but I've never heard it before. Is this a new term or have I just been out of the loop? Would lesbians be offended by this term? It sounds much nicer than 'dyke,' which despite the 'little dutch boy" inferences (for guy who's gf left him for another woman) really isn't an attractive sounding term. Any comments?
I like "dyke" myself. I use it all the time with my dyke and fag friends. However, this prick at school uses it all the time, and it pisses me off...asshole...it's what I get for being out.
By the way, the term's not offensive, but it's kinda stupid. Just because of the obvious sexual reference. I mean, slang for a straight girl probably wouldn't involve a dick.
As well as the vegetarian thing. It seems to me that if you are going to refer to lesbians in such terms because they aren't interested in sex with men the same terms would apply to males who aren't interested in sex with males.
Yeah, I think it's a bit obvious too, but it's so much better than "clam digger" or "carpet muncher." UGH! I guess you could reclaim "dyke" but then it becomes a word just for other homosexuals to use. Which leave the rest of us with "lesbian" or something stupid. And let's face it, "lesbian" gets old after a while. I like to have a lot of words at my disposal. I hate having to repeat the same words for things over and over, ya know? Anyway, I was just curious. Today is the first time I heard that term (vagitarian, that is) and I wondered if people would think I was some kind of homophobe or pig or something if I added it to my vocabulary.
i hate carpet muncher! it makes me think of some old person eating oldpeople carpet from their house..
I know a few men who would claim to be "a lesbian trapped in a man's body." Actually, that's not exactly true. I assume there are many because I personally make that claim and I don't want to be the only one. Then again, I was raised by lesbians (had two moms since I was 11 years old), so maybe it's just a trademark of my childhood. I'm not complaining.
Ignore this post. It was a response to someone who apparently (as of today - 8/25/04) no longer exists. Praise to the moderators.
Yet another removed response to the banished troll - let this serve as a reminder (mostly to myself) to stop feeding them.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand... There's this one tv show I watch a lot and the obligatory gay & black woman refers to other lesbians as "lickity girls" or "lickity boo" or "lickity chick"... just sounds so cute and non-offensive, heh.
I don't really like the term "vagitarian", I'm not a lesbian but I'm a vEgetarian and people might get confused
