hey i have been on depo for about a month and a half now and i heard a common side effect was irregular bleeding and i was warned about that.. but i havent bleed at all, as a matter of fact when i got my shot and was on the 3rd day of my period, it basically made my period stop. and i was supposed to start my period last week and still havent gotten it. has anybody else been on depo and not bleed at all?.. i dont think i like not having periods it makes me worry.
it is perfectly normal to be on the pill and it to stop all periods. a lot of people go on the pill just for that reason. Dont panick If you are worried go take a pregnancy test anyway but im sure things will be fine *hug*
I actually took those shots for 2 years and I didnt have a period either some spotting later on... The main thing I noticed your 18 so that shouldnt be a problem but what I experienced and I was about 28 (I think when I started taking them) was that after about a year and a half I started having what I was told was somethings like the symptoms when a woman goes through the change of life..... and as you know that is something that normally happens around the age of 50 or older.... I would have horrible mood changes... I would wake up in the middle of the night very very hot and sweaty... that I couldnt get cooled off then I would go back to sleep and wake up freezing so bad that I was shaking... That went on a while... I became horribly depressed as well... So the main thing is to keep on eye on how you are really feeling... Hopefully it wont be an issue since your so young... I finally stopped taking them and slowly all of the moodiness and night sweats/freezing sort of things stopped within about 6 months but they say it takes a while for them to get out of your system... But the first year I thought that they were a wonderful gift with no periods, no cramping or anything... So the main thing it to pay attention to your body while on them... if you start feeling odd talk to the doctors or switch your form of birth control... Hope this helps.... Brown eyes
My friend gets those shots cos she hates period pain, and because she doesnt get one with the shots she takes it. So I guess its absolutely normal not to get a period when getting the shots
I've been on depo for almost a year and a half now, and i've only spotted once (I was a day late for my injection). I love the whole not menstruating thing (save money on pads/tampons, safer for the environment, and you can fuck anytime you want!). However, I have noticed that about two weeks after I get my injection I get all moody for a few days, and about a month before my next shot as well. Just make sure the mood swings etc aren't too crazy for you. Did you lose or gain weight at all? (I gained, alas). It's a common sideaffect I hear.
I havent gained weight yet but it has only been a month.. i have noticed a big increase in my appetite so i am worried about gaining but im just starting to watch what i eat more so i dont gain too much but i have also heard of people losing up to 15 pounds on it so its just different from person to person. thanks for the replies i feel better now, even though they said it could stop completely just everyone preparing me to be bleeding irregularly all the time made me feel a little uncertain when i actually didnt bleed... and no more cramps from hell and ruining my cute underwear, so im liking this. The sex at anytime thing is awesome too, although i worry so much that even without anything i still get antsy afterward about being pregnant, but oh well.
I was watching the discovery channel this morning and it said something on there about getting the depo shot that you are most likely to get an std, a much higher risk then if you were on the pill, it said that they don't know why, but that is what they said so just saw this and wanted to let you guys know. You maybe able to find out more on the discovery.com
i was taking the shots for about 3 years and i never had a period as long as i didnt miss a shot... i loved it!
I know a few girls on depo 2/3 have no periods 5/18 have irregular bleeding 1/18 have lots of bleeding 1/2 have experienced weight gain ~10-15 lbs over the first year, not much after that
Well you are more likely to get an std because less people use condoms on depo because of the highly effectiveness against PREGNANCY. but thats all it protects against, its a form of birth control, and if u dont use a condom to protect against disease than yeah its likely, fortunately i have been with my bf for 2 yrs and we were both virgins who are in a commited relationship, but yeah if your just sleeping around u should always use a condom nomatter what bc your on.
This here is what I was trying to say I heard on Discovery but did not hear it all so I went and found it for you, but sure if you have been with your bf forever and both were virgines then you would have no risk, but not everyone is perfect....... Contraceptive may triple STD risk Women who use the injected contraceptive Depo-Provera have a higher rate of sexually transmitted diseases, U.S. researchers reported on Monday. This holds true even when behavior and other factors are taken into account, the research team at the National Institutes of Health, University of North Carolina and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore found. More study is needed, but it is possible that Depo-Provera itself causes a susceptibility to STDs, said Charles Morrison of Family Health International in Research Triangle Park, N.C., who led the study. Inner-city and younger women also had a higher risk of STDs, but using Depo-Provera added to the risk, study found. The researchers studied about 800 women age 15 to 45 using two clinics in the Baltimore area -- one urban, serving mostly black women, and one suburban with a client base of white, college-age women. Most were single. The women chose whether they wanted to use Depo-Provera, contraceptive pills, or a non-hormonal contraceptive method. After a year, 45 women had become infected with chlamydia or gonorrhea. The women using the injected contraceptive were three times as likely to have one of the STDs, the researchers said. Just wanted the women out there that are not sooo perfect to know this, because it is a big deal, to me any way
Yeah it is a very big deal. and thanks for the info. I remember when i got my shot my gyno did stress the use of condoms to protect against stds even though i was still going to be on bc.Im sure all docs will tell people that but now that i think about what you have said it does seem like maybe she realized the higher std risk and just wasnt up front telling me. so its good to know. and trust me i am definately not perfect. And jeesh i've done fuckloads of research on this stuff cuz its going into my body and i need to know everything, so i am glad to hear something i actually did not find.
