Hello does anyone know if the taking of anti-psychotics would block the effects from taking about 15 peyote buttons? I'm on Olanzapine and took 15 buttons and had no effect at all..??

Very likely. Olanzapine's method of action is not really understood, but the theorized method of action is through alteration of the nor-epi, dopamine, and seratonin systems. Considering that mescaline/psilocybine/LSD create their effects because they look like seratonin (but are not), it would be likely that by altering the seratonin systems it could override the effects of psychedelics. I would not reccomend stopping your medication to try psychedelics, as they tend to make the underlying problem worse.

Its sad enough I'm on anti-psychotics I can only get away with smoking a little cannabis once in a while. I remember I used to have to take Clozaril and ran out once, it was weird... It was like somebody gave me some lsd... and I thought I was dying because my heart was pounding erratically from NOT taking it ... heh dangerous and sad but it was an experience. I'd give anything to be off these meds though...people always tend to think the worst..:(

Soulesswizard~ do not despair. We love you regardless!

There is the pharmacological aspect that is there (the allopathic mindset), but also consider that you were able to get that Medicine (Peyote) into your body.

That's a blessing on it's own. I've sat up in meetings with folks who happen to have conditions similar to yours, and I was on a low dose of an SSRI for a while and still able to gain a tremendous amount of communion with the Medicine.

However, we are approaching it from a different place... not wanting to "get high" but to recieve a blessing and maybe a healing.

How we are in the NAC, we consider and respect the Medicine as his/her own being and I think that maybe the Medicine worked with you in the sense that she/he wanted the medication that you are on to help you, and keep on helping you.

Thats how I see it. Sorry if it seems "out there" but most folks don't take the time to get to know the Medicine as a Healer. They come from a place of "using" and "doing" , and not from "this Medicine has a Healing Power"....

Souless - Don't worry about it man. I have more respect for a person on antipsychotics who actually takes them than I do for people who don't take/require medications. It takes a lot of willpower to continue to take antipsychotics (especially when most of the illnesses they treat tend to mislead you into thinking you don't need them).

Thats so true, I've on occasion thought, "hey, I'm better now, I don't need this stuff anymore" sure enough days later I was a mess. Its not even so much that I became psychotic or anything but i think years of my body being dependent the meds really took its toll. When I was first prescribed the meds maybe about 10 years ago? the doctor saw psychotic symptoms primarily because I was a frequent cannabis user (nonsense right?). Then he started giving me alot of other drugs to counter act the side effects as well as anti depressants. Sad thing is i'm totally against these modern meds made by man and controlled by the pharmaceutical industry.. I've always been a naturalist and believe in the healing power of plants and nature.
I tried peyote hoping for a breakthrough from years of no feeling at all. I hoped it would at least show me insight into myself or how i could change my life for the better.
Makes me wonder if the state of mind induced by mescaline or other psychoactives is really just a psychomimetic state after all.

That's because anti-psychotics are heavily addictive and if you try to go without them, you WILL go through withdrawal. I have seen it happen with anti-psychotics and it was not a good site. It almost became fatal is how bad the withdrawal became, physically and mentally.

Souless, you should try cutting down the level of those meds very slowly so that way you won't have as much withdrawal. There is a plant that is called passionflower that is supposed to help withdrawal from drugs. It is almost a cure all. It helps depression, anxiety, heart palpitations, insomnia, etc...... Definetly look into because all anti-psychotics do is keep your mind from understanding and working to fix your problems. It keeps you in an almost vegetative state of neutrality in the world. It will take time and withdrawal can take a toll mentally, but in the end you will be able to understand what in your life needs fixing, not just that "hey take this pill and you'll get better." Good luck with everything.

    Peace,
    Steven

Yeah I think I"ll have to start taking half doses and deal with the withdrawl as best I can. I still can't believe they prescribe this stuff to people legally.
