is it ok to smoke pot while on birth control pills? will it effect anything? (this may have been a thread before, but i couldnt find it). and would i have to tell my doctor that i smoke?
When I went on the pill, I told my doctor I smoked marijuana recreationally but did not smoke cigarettes. I think it's only and issue if you are smoking cigarettes when you are over 30 or 40 or something so yeah, don't worry about it.
so if i didnt tell my doctor i smoke mj (cus i think my moms gonna be there....akward) then it wouldnt effect what kind of pills she gives me? because that would be ideal
Smoking anything is not recommended on an oral contraceptive, really. I'm trying to find out why... I have been on the pill forever and a day, and it hasn't had any negative effect on my cycle or anything, so I guess I'm OK... We're all different, of course. EDIT: Apparently it increases the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, particularly if yu are on a combined pill. Obviously it is worse the older one is and the more one smokes. Read this, makes it a bit clearer: http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/901289862.html Be aware though, that your doctor is not in a position to report you for cannabis use, so it is best to always be honest, even if you don't like what he has to say about it... There are some conditions that could be affected by it's use.
well, im most concerned about if i could still be on the pill while smoking, and not getting pregnant (my biggest concern at the moment)
You mean does pot affect it's contraceptive properties? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no, I don't think it does. I'm pushing 30, and I have never even had a pregnancy scare, so if that's anything to go by, I'd say it's not an issue. Despite my age, I also have no desire at all to have children, so I am super-vigilant - paranoid, even - about these things! One thing I will say though; get into a strict routine with when you take it; a hell of a lot of accidents occur when a woman forgets to take a pill. Also, be aware that other medications can affect it's reliability, and there are times when a secondary contraceptive is a good idea; for example, on certain antibiotics and cold preparations, and if you are sick or have diarrhea. If you are unsure, ask your pharmacist; they are more clued up about contraindications that GPs, usually.
yeah my gf was on the pill and smoked, now she's on the patch and we smoke now and again. there's been no problems. if anything it counteracts the nausea she gets from the pill (weak stomach).
no worries i got everything cleared up today with my bf's cousin (shes smokes and is on the pill) and she explained everything wonderfully.
