Lots of folk on the boards seem to dig a bit dance. I don't think I've sprung up one of these posts yet, if there's one lurking on page 5 I apologise So what would be your favourite dance albums? Massive Attack - Mezzanine Death In Vegas - The Contino Sessions & Scorpio Rising Orbital - 'Green' and 'Brown' Mum - Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today was OK Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92 Aphex Twin - Drukqs Leftfield - Leftism Underworld - Dubsnobasswithmyheadman Also, what's the earliest dance type song you can think of? Because when I first heard 'Revolver' by The Beatles and in particular the song 'Tommorow Never Knows' I thought, "Jesus, The Beatles made a dance track in the 60's!"
I really enjoyed the sillyness and big fucking drums of the big beat scene, made famous by Fatboy Slim and The Chemical Brothers... but I've also got some good tracks by the likes of Midfield General, Monkey Mafia, Lionrock, Death In Vegas, Lo-Fidelity Allstars and Propellerheads... On a broader electronic scale, got some good stuff by Orbital, The Orb, Leftfield, 808 State, The Grid, Underworld, The Sabres of Paradise, Fluke, The Future Sound of London, Curve, Lamb, Dylan Rhymes, Photek and Goldie... Don't think I have many proper albums... Was more into making up compilations back then... Fuck... havn't listened to any of my old dance stuff for years... Fly... .
Some to note.... Electronic on the sexual and mayhem side check out The Lords of Acid - Voodoo U 1992 album that continues to be one of my favorites, Satyricon by Meat Beat Manifesto a sci-fi adventure that defines the term "studio wizardry", Amon Tobin's Out from Out Where san francisco based techno-y, electro futuristic group Freaky Chakra released Blacklight Fantasy. This album is weird, very good nonetheless. Sasha spins the song Platform on his San Francisco trip with Global Underground. Best song on the album, but the vinyl to save $$. The New Deal is getting a ton of attention in the jam band scene. They are a dance group however that performed at the Bonnaroo festival this past year i believe. Check out their first release self titled. You can also download their shows off of www.archive.org
Music has the right to children - boards of canada or pretty much anything by future sound of London..
I don't own any Boards of Canada myself, but you're quite right, whenever and whatever I've heard I've liked a lot. Heard bits of Amon Tobin around and that's always pleased too. Can't believe I forgot The Chemical Brothers! I think they were act that reacquainted me with the genre after tuning out from those crazy rave days and getting into me grunge. Anyone remember that show Michella Strachan used to present on ITV? My brother who's a few years older was well into that scene, reminds me that The Prodigy were pretty large even then.
Yeah, amon Tobin is great. Alot of the ninja tune label is. You guys should check out Wagon christ(luke vibert). Venetian Snares(aaron Funk) is great too. Really wild stuff.
Sorry to say the new Prodigy single hasn't really impressed me. I'm thinking it'll probably grow on me, but I doubt to any great extent. Be nice to hear the album of course, see where they're at nowadays. Are all the members present or not? I'm sure there was talk of one of them taking off.
You might wanna check out 'Lemon Jelly' - bit of an aquired taste but I love them. Also for more chilled out stuff 'Goldfrapp' (she did vocals for Orbital on 'Middle of Nowhere' album - my fave Orbital album along with 'In Slides'). Someone already mentioned 'Air', 'Fsol' and 'Lo Fidelity All Stars' also 'Rokysopp' (sp?) did an ace debut album, 'Autechre' and well there is always 'Coil' - again an aquired taste and of course 'Infected Mushroom' - their album 'B.P. Empire' is well worth a look. So many more... so much good music out there.
The Prodigy is now just Liam Howlett... Neither Keith Flint nor Maxim Reality have contributed to the new lp... as soon as I heard there were vocals by Julliette Lewis, alarm bells were ringing at full volume... Fly... .
